Fièn

Fièn was a Half-elf rogue fighting with a unique magical card deck and their insight. She was a player character of the Smugglers of magiccampaign, she was played by Floor.  

Story

  She had a normal life until the point she reached the age of 10, when her parents dropped her off with her uncle Hamon in Bersail. They promised that they would return for her when they had built a better life in another city. In their absence, Hamon tried to step up. He always tried to treat her like a princess, even if he was always busy with his job. She would always wait up until late at night to welcome him home.
For her 16th birthday, he gifted her a special card deck; one where on each card something was drawn, something from either her youth or her time there. She loved it.
When she was seventeen, he suddenly disappeared. She waited for a week, but she never saw him again. She eventually went out looking for him, going to the bars she knew he would go and ask around. When money was getting tight, she started gambling, seeing this as a win-win situation: she could get close to people and get some money. One night it all went wrong, when she got home and people were waiting for her. They pulled her in and warned her about sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong and keeping her mouth shut. To give her a reminder she would not forget, they carved into her face. In that moment, it seemed like something awakened inside of her and when she grabbed onto the cards from the card deck that was given to her by her uncle, she knew that she could use it to fight back. After that night, she locked herself away for a week until she had to go out for food. Since then, she started having a fear of getting close to people, thinking that they will leave her behind like everyone else in her life.   You can see the detailed story of Fièn during her campaign in the Smugglers of magic session summaries.
Her reasoning for joining the party and infiltrating the gang in the first place had two reasons: learning more about the disappearance of her uncle and preventing other people from getting in the same spot she found herself those years ago. While it started out like that, she found herself getting slightly attached to the group. After being alone for a while, it was nice having some people to do things with, even if they were illegal. She took responsibility for a bar they took over, started her own business and created an information network. She even disclosed to other people her fear and the scar she bears. She was content with her life at that point.   After the campaign when everyone of the party left to do other things, Fièn stayed behind and took full control of the gang. She also came to a realization that this is how her life is supposed to be: depended on her own. That is how she tried to live her life. She focused on growing the business: expanding territory, expanding the information network, expanding the gambling business. She also tried doing that by looking at other cities close to Bersail and setting up casinos there. She tried to have meetings with the families that ‘run’ the city, to make sure that they could ‘trust her’, aka making sure they would not get on her ass often. She also tried to stay in contact with the leaders of the other gangs, either through her network or in person, to at least try and prevent a situation like with Vena from happening again.

Character

Personality
She can appear as someone who is shut in, but if ever coming in a conversation she can appear playful and nice. If ever in a meeting with someone, she would pull out some cards and have a friendly talk while playing. However, she always seemed to be analyzing, doubting every word until she was sure they were the truth, expecting a dagger to be thrown at her at any moment. If anyone were to ever crack the figurative mask she covers herself with, they will know that every bit of it was an act, just a way to have people lower their guard around her and possibly reveal things they shouldn’t   Things Fièn likes

  Important people
  1. Jade. Jade is the only one who stayed in contact with her and visits Bersail after the events of the campaign.
  2. Hamon Mistsong. He raised her from the best of his abilities for 7 years and gave her a gift that helped her survive for much more time later.
  3. Her parents. Even if they left her behind with her uncle and never came back, they did raise her and at least had the dignity to drop her off somewhere where she would be nicely taken care of. She would not react so kindly if she ever saw them however.
  4. Wulfric. The moment he carved into her and gave Fièn her signature scar, she has fundamentally changed from a more meek and positive girl, to a woman who would always expect someone to be out for something.

Appearance

Fièn has chestnut brown hair that reaches her upper back that she most often wears loose. She has blue eyes. She is always dressed in a purple cape with a purple blouse/corset underneath and a pair of black pants. The type of boots seem to be the only thing changing about her everyday outfit. She always looks like she stares through you. It also seems like her eyes would shine a vibrant purple on some moments. Most of her face is not visible, being hidden behind a mask that covers everything below the nose.  

Skills

Incredible insight
Fièn has an incredible insight. Being able to catch people in lies or discern their true meaning like no other. Getting in other people's heads is what she does best. This skill is also applied in combat, one of the main ways in which Fièn uses this is by predicting the moves of oppenents and using that to find weak spots in their attacks.   Magic cards
Fièn carries around a magic card deck. The deck was giften to her by Hamon but the magic developed through Fièn her attachment to the card deck (though she doesn't know that). The cards have a number of magical effects to them.
For 1 the cards are far more deadly when in the hands of its wielder, cutting and slicing as if actual steel, this also applies when throwing the cards. Another point of magic is that the cards always seem to find their way back to its wielder, whether expended through its own magic, lost or destroyed the cards always return sooner rather than later. Another ability the cards hold is to whisper truth, the cards can be expended to help Fièn's insight as they seem to have the ability to look into the thoughts of others in some subtle way. Fièn is aware of the location of each card, allowing her to place cards at various locations stategically. Lastly Fièn can pull cards within a short distance back to her at deadly speeds, allowing her to do combinations like throwing cards behind enemies and pulling them back for a feint attack. The pull-back trick however is tough on the cards and temporarily discards them.   Maybe even more importantly than the powers the cards already possess they can grow further. So long as they are tied to Fièn the one whose soul awakened the magic in the cards and is still connected to them now, the cards can grow further. So who knows what other magic the cards can develop over Fièn's lifetime.   Magic items
Next to Fièn's signature carddecks there are a couple other magic items that Fièn gathered over the events of the Smugglers of magic campaign which she also uses.
  1. Amulet of health. Fièn carries an amulet which aids her consitution and keeps her healthy.
  2. Shoes of spider climbing. The shoes Fièn wears allow her to stick to walls and ceilings.
  3. Ring of X-ray vision. Fièn wears a ring which can temporarily cause her eyes to pierce through solid matter and view whats behind it.
  Criminal network
Not really a skill, but by the end of the campaign Fièn has built up a network of people and businesses which serve her, giving her both incredible wealth and assets. More than the money however the biggest part of her large network is information. Fièn got this power for a couple reasons. For 1, Fièn was the one who stayed behind and kind of inherited the Smugglers of Magic, as the rest left after the campaign. 2nd, Fièn pioneered structured gambling with the first gambling house in the city and continent. Fièn also grew her power after the campaign, expanding with new businessess in and outside of Bersail. This all resulted in this powerfull criminal network, which while mostly centered on Bersail also holds some sway outside of it.
