Shadar-kai

The Shadar-Kai are a subspecies of Elf native to the Shadowfell. Shadar-kai exist in a strange state between life and death, unlike their Eladrin ancestors the Shadar-kai are nearly devoid of emotion, living in a state of perpetual misery or just nothiness.   The Shadar-kai within the Shadowfell tend to worship Erebus, their Patron Deity. Legends say that the first Shadar-kai entered the Shadowfell to be closer to Erebus and their devotion kept them from leaving.   The Shadar-kai’s emotionless or miserable state mean they rarely have the motivation to leave the Shadowfell or their communities within it and those that do find the world too bright, emotional and overwhelming. But on rare occasions some Shadar-kai, especially younger Elves wander out of the Shadowfell, enticed by the brightness and end up pursuing the emotions and connections they can not get at home. These Elves almost never return to the Shadowfell.
