Elves - Eladrin

Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. Elves are the oldest mortal species in the universe, originating from the Feywild. Many believe that Elves evolved from nature spirits like Nymphs.   While there are many subspecies of Elf spread across the Planes, to Exorsia and beyond, those that remained are known as the Eladrin. Eladrin Elves are Fey beings attuned to the energies and magic of the Feywild. They are commonly bursting with emotion and like most Fey beings Eladrin tend to be prideful, chaotic and self indulgent, heavily valuing freedom and following whims in pursuit of pleasure over all else.   Elves have an exceptionally long lifespan, living for 800 to 1,000 years outside of the Feywild, this means Elves typically experience time differently than most and struggle to relate to other species as their lives pass by so quickly in comparison to their own. An Elf’s long life also affects many aspects of their lives. Elves rarely interact or form bonds with other species, commonly distancing themselves from the world and only interacting with other Elves. That being said, many younger Elves will travel and contribute to society, at least until they get tired of the constant loss of their short lived friends and loved ones.   Elves have little notion of monogamy, because of their long lives the concept of binding themselves to one person their whole life is absurd, though Elves are not strangers to giving special attention to a favoured individual for an extended period of time.   When an Elf enters a relationship with another species, such as a Human, they do so knowing that they will outlive their partner. In these occasions it is not uncommon for an Elf to form monogamous bonds, such as marriage out of respect for their partner, knowing it is only for a short time.   Elven children are extremely rare, the choice to have a child with another Elf is the height of love between two Elves and is not a commitment made lightly. Because of their rarity Elven children are cherished and nurtured by the whole community. Children born from other races, usually humans, are a little more common, though because of the limited life of the offspring, Elves have difficulty forming a connection to their Half-Elven children.

Apperance:

Elves as a whole are commonly slender in build with long pointed ears and sharp features. They are uncanny in appearance, otherworldly looking, distinctly standing out in a crowd. Unlike most races they do not have body hair and can not grow facial hair.   Eladrin stand out from other Elves with their long, pointed ears with tufts of hair at the end and their bushy eyebrows. Due to their Fey origins, Eladrin look far more alien than other Elves with pupiless eyes and some Eladrin even take on an insect or plant-like appearance with skin that changes colour in accordance with their mood or reflective of the seasons.   Complexion: Eladrin skin tones range from a tanned olive to a light brown complexion.   Hair: Eladrin hair ranges from blonde and brown to reds, oranges and greens.   Eyes: The Eladrin tend to have hazel, gold or green coloured eyes.

Maturity:

Eladrin Elves do not age within the Feywild, but outside of it most Elves live for around 800 to 1000 years on average. Elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, but they aren’t considered an adult until they are at least 100 after they have garnered enough worldly experience.

Reproduction:

Elves reproduce similarly to Humans, though with quite a few differences. Unlike Humans, Elves are capable of biologically choosing to produce children, giving them a natural “birth control”.   The gestation period for an Elf is around 12 months and they experience very little negative conditions during pregnancy unlike many other species.
