Nymphs

Nymphs are Fey spirits bound to the natural world; They are a single sex species that are said to be the ancestors of Elves who sprung from the first trees and rivers of the Feywild.   Each Nymph is born from and is bound to a source of nature like a plant, trees, river or lake. A Nymph can emerge from their source and travel the lands around it, but that source remains their home and is bound to their existence. As long as the source remains healthy and unharmed, the Nymph remains healthy and youthful, but if the source is harmed or polluted, the Nymph becomes unwell. If the source is ever destroyed, the Nymph dies or descends into madness.   Nymphs are the favoured hunting companions of the Goddess Artemis, who is their Divine Patron. They have a strong bond with nature, able to draw on it to fuel their magic, they can also teleport through natural pathways unseen to most creatures.   Nymphs are split into two distinct subspecies, depending on their environment they are tied too:   Dryads: Sometimes called tree nymphs, are the spirits of plants, specifically trees.   Naiads: Sometimes called Nereids, freshwater nymphs or sea nymphs, are the spirits of rivers, lakes, ocean currents or other bodies of water.   Nymphs are exceptionally common in the Feywild, but are less common on Exorsia. Those that do can commonly be found around druidic communities, working with them to defend their lands from those who would do it harm. Nymphs are usually shy and reclusive, they tend to watch those who enter their natural demesnes from a distance. If the creature shows themselves a threat the Nymph will call for aid from their allies and prepare to defend their home.   Nymphs are known to adore beautiful things, while they prefer to remain hidden from strangers, a Nymph struck by the beauty of a stranger might be more willing to investigate more closely.   Most Nymphs do not travel far from their source of nature, only the rare few risk the dangers of the outside world for adventure.

Appearance:

Nymphs commonly resemble female Elves. A Nymphs’ appearance depends on their subspecies: Dryads tend to have a plant-like appearance, resembling the plant they spawned from, while Naiads tend to have an aquatic appearance as though they are made of water.   Complexion: Nymph skin tones range from a bark like brown or leafy green to a watery blue or sea green.   Hair: Nymph hair ranges from brown and ginger, to greens and blues.   Eyes: Nymphs tend to have either green or blue coloured eyes.

Maturity:

Nymphs live as long as their source of nature does and do not show signs of age. Nymphs do not mature in the conventional sense, they take form within sources of nature and spring out fully formed.

Reproduction:

Nymphs reproduce similarly to Humans. Though their offspring are never Nymphs themselves, and are instead born as the species of the partner with only slight Nymph-like traits.
