Sylvan

Sylvan is the primary language of the Land of Faerie. It is often seen as the language of nature and emotion.

The language itself is fairly old, and has changed very little throughout the ages. It flows easily, a melodic tongue, similarly to Elvish; in fact many linguists believe that the Sylvan language is derived from Elvish, while others argue it’s the other way around.

Sylvan is one the few languages that does not have any gendered language, with no gendered pronouns or direct translation for “male" or "female". Some scholars have taken to using the Elven words when translating, such as introducing translations of Lord and Lady for the genderless Sylvan “Arglwydd”. There is much debate on whether this is appropriate.

Although Sylvan uses the Elvish script, the language is hardly ever written, with most Fae scripture written in Elvish instead.

Sylvan is rarely heard outside of the Land of Faerie, with many Fae also speaking Elvish and sometimes Common. Though there are a few Fae communities that exclusively speak Sylvan. The Fae are known to take advantage of their unique language when insulting or tricking their prey.
