Kingdom of Lorth’elon
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon is a Theocratic Monarchy with a citizenship of mostly Moon Elves. The Kingdom rules over a collection of settlements located in the west of the Elderan continent.
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon officially worship the Goddess of the Moon, Selene, who is an important religious figure in the Kingdom’s culture. The worship of Selene is also heavily tied to the Kingdom's politics with Queen being the head of the clergy and those in positions of religious authority positioned at the top of the social ladder. The Kingdom of Lorth’elon is also a matriarchal society with men rarely found in positions of power.
The Kingdom was founded after the Exorsian Civil Wars during the Bronze Age. It was founded by a faction of Moon Elves, devotees of Selene the moon Goddess, that had been oppressed under the rule of Lolth's Drow and then rebelled. In the aftermath of the Civil Wars they built their new society under the protection of the moon.
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon have a good relationship with the neighbouring Kingdom of Dun’Vol, but have a fraught relationship with the Varin Empire, who they were recently at war with, in a conflict known as the Betrayer War.

Government:
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon is governed by a ruling Queen and a council of matriarchs known as the Moonlight Elective. The Lorth’elon Queen is divinely chosen by Selene, the Goddess of the Moon, to be monarch. The Queen also acts as the religious leader of the clergy of Selene and is forbidden from having children or taking a male lover. The Monarch is chosen in a sacred religious ritual performed by the Moonlight Elective, at the end of the ritual Selune herself selects the next monarch from one of the former Queen’s ladies in waiting. The name Lorth’elon is a ceremonial name and is only used by the reigning monarch and any sisters of the monarch. The position as one of the Queen’s ladies in waiting is a coveted and sacred role. When a monarch is elected six priestesses of Selune are appointed by the Moonlight Elective as the new Queen’s ladies in waiting, these women tend to the Queen and are taught how to rule. When the new monarch dies the former ladies in waiting join the Moonlight Elective. Settlements under the control of the Kingdom of Lorth’elon are governed by Prefects. The Prefects are members of the Moonlight Elective, trained in law and politics and appointed to their position by the Moonlight Elective, they govern for 10 years before returning to the capital.Military & Local Guard:
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon is protected by the Silver Hand, a military force of trained soldiers positioned all across the kingdom. Each settlement under the control of the kingdom houses a garrison of Silver Hand under the command of the Prefect. The majority of the Silver Hand are located in the capital city, Vir’thelgos, protecting the Queen.Religion:
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon practise a policy of religious freedom, allowing its citizens to worship whomever they wish, only outlawing the worship of Dark Deities, such as Apophis, Lolth and Tartarus. That being said, the official religion of the nation is the following of Selene, the Goddess of the Moon, with her worship being directly tied to the nation's governance; The reigning monarch is the head of the clergy of Selene and all members of the Moonlight Elective are also priestesses of Selene. The Kingdom also holds many religious festivals and celebrations in Selene’s name, with the celebration of Seleméra, a sacred holiday for Selene when the moon Theira is full, being an incredibly culturally significant holiday for the population.Social Hierarchy:
The Kingdom of Lorth’elon has the standard monarchal class system that is primarily structured around property ownership and wealth. Holy Class: The highest social class, consisting of members of the monarchy, the moonlight elective and the clergy of Selune. Only women can be members of this social class. Noble Class: The noble class consists of members of wealthy and prestigious families. Members of the noble class usually own multiple properties or businesses. Middle Class: The middle class consists of families that own property, usually those who own a business or a store. Working Class: The working class consists of those who don’t own property. Working class citizens usually work for someone else and live in rented accommodation.Legal System & Laws:
Minor crimes are brought before the local Prefect, while more serious crimes are brought before the Moonlight Elective. In both situations they use the evidence provided to sentence the accused. Most crimes lead to a fine or prison sentence with the death penalty exclusively saved for acts of treason or crimes against Selene. Crimes against men are usually taken less seriously while crimes against the faith of Selene are taken very seriously. Common Laws Against: Theft, Slavery, Trespassing, Tax Avoidance, Property Damage, Kidnapping, Assault, Murder, Treason. Unique Laws Against: Blasphemy Against Selene, Worship of Dark Gods. Alcohol & Drugs: All drugs are illegal and liquors are illegal until a person reaches adult age.
