Endlessly soothing and mysterious, Mina is the mother of Tia Minx and the wife of Allen Minx. So many details remain unknown about Mina, even to her family, including her age, Kaithur and childhood! Her husband has assumed Mina has burdens from her past which she prefers to leave behind, much like he does, Allen choosing to respect her privacy. What Allen does know is that Mina was previously one of many concubines serving the emperor in Nippon, a member of an illustrious but secretive family known to carry the blood of their goddess Amaterasu! After the emperor passed away, Mina was freed from her duty as a concubine. She had already formed a friendship with Allen, playing a major role in his self-discovery and healing, and their relationship quickly developed into something more. |
When Mina married Allen, she also cut ties with her mysterious clan and they similarly stayed out of Tia's life due to her Eluzian heritage. This isn't to say Mina has lost all respect or influence, she is still held in high regard for her service and possesses her own private home in the mountains outside of the capital. In fact, she and Tia would often find respite in this remote but serene residence. Unfortunately Mina's prestige did not extend to her daughter--Tia was inevitably ostracized as an outsider in this insulated island nation! Mina watched on helplessly, noble children going so far as to treat Tia as a mongrel. All she could do was provide Tia a safe shelter and understanding ear, ever her ally. Until everything changed, their quiet life shattered. |
Mina and Tia were very close before they left Nippon. Tia greatly admired her mother and often attempted to emulate her. However, Tia is very different from her mother in many regards. Where Mina is elegant, refined and graceful, Tia is brash, earnest and gauche. Mina always found these qualities charming, failing to see the insecurities Tia developed comparing herself to her mother. But this admiration and their close relationship made Mina's betrayal all the more intense, all the more heart wrenching when she left Tia on that mountaintop! After that fateful night and thanks to the secrets of her past, Mina is unable to reconcile with Tia or find her way back into her or Allen's life--the life they knew died that night. Despite this, Mina is still doing what she can to aid and protect them in any way she can manage, relying on an old friend to these ends while she arranges her plan. Over the course of Tia's adventure, Mina's secrets will shadow her and push Tia further towards her fate. Tia will work to glean the truth and uncover their meaning, wrenching out her mother's secrets bit by bit! |

Personality |
Mina has a skill for disarming and de-escalation, seeming ever steady and composed. She is very elegant, feminine and well mannered. Yet she can still be playful and coy and she is generous with her affection for her family. Elegance and poise aside, Mina is very mysterious and magnetic, drawing attention wherever she goes and often leaving more questions than answers. She also has a skill and insight into the true nature of others, something that drew her closer to Allen when many others would have turned away from his frigid, prickly demeanor. She has a tendency to try and heal the wounded but she still is left uncertain in how to do the same for her own daughter. And one might question her ability to trust, to have faith in others, with how many secrets she keeps. Can she learn to trust in the strength of her family or will she continue to burden herself alone with all that threatens them? |
Background |
Not much is known about Mina's past but what is clear about her is the family she was once a member of. Those within this clan were known to possess both strong ties to the emperor and rare celestial magic. In fact, Sylthari was known to interact with this clan directly, using them as a tool to resupply the imperial family with her divine blood. However, they refer to her as Amaterasu, a figure of their own mythology. Mina was one of many maidens from this clan to serve as a concubine for the late emperor and undoubtedly carries the blood of their goddess. She appears to be a powerful celestial mage, witnessed utilizing celestial magic of varying kinds and has passed a rare celestial form to her daughter, whether Tia realizes the significance or not. |
Failures & Regrets |
Ever since the night she left and Tia followed after her, Mina has been swallowed up by guilt and regret. She hadn't intended for Tia to follow her and had been careful to slip away without being pursued by any of the soldiers escorting them—unfortunately Tia hadn't been so careful. Mina has told Allen that the reason for leaving Tia behind was a curse she is under, one that takes control of her when she is in danger. Yet it is still unclear what the truth is or why she departed that night at all. What is clear is Mina's overwhelming guilt and that she blames herself entirely for Tia's transformation into a shape shifter. Unable to face her daughter but determined to alter the course of her fate, Mina is plotting and laying the foundation for something big. With the the help of an old friend, she tries to send Tia letters too. But can Tia bring herself to receive her mother's words? |
Motivation |
Mina is plotting something with Supay the Huntsman, an old friend, to try and aid Tia despite their distance. She has even mysteriously reconnected with her husband and begun collaborating with him from afar to this end. Allen is doing all he can to trust in his wife, Mina unable to divulge a number of details per Supay's request. He and Supay are begrudgingly working together to buy her time and help Allen grow closer to the king. Yet Mina's activities remain a mystery and their cryptic interactions make Allen question if their rendezvous are nothing but dreams and delusions! |
Social |
It isn't clear how but Supay the Huntsman seems an old friend of Mina's, a mystery to all but the pair of them. Supay is also clearly enamoured with Mina but she has eyes only for Allen, making it clear to Supay's aggravation. But neither let this dynamic get in the way of their plotting. Mina instead seems to treat him like an irksome little brother, the two of them polar opposites in many ways. She is staying with him in Pakaysacha while she carries out her tasks. Meanwhile, Supay and his Chakuqpa Runankuna collaborate with Allen against the kingdom! |
Family |
Allen Minx is her husband and is a doting, devoted spouse even as they've been separated. This is primarily because of how their relationship started and how it changed him. Allen arrived at the archipelago trying to escape his old life and his many traumas. He was a bitter, prickly and seemingly lifeless husk of a man. What Allen will always be grateful to her for was her ability to disarm and pick apart all of his defenses and walls, feeling she breathed life into him when he was a "dead man walking" as he would put it. |
Mina's gentle, insightful nature was everything Allen needed to begin healing, Mina giving him the gentle place he needed to discover himself. And she fell hard for Allen's own charm and the kind, wounded man hiding underneath his defenses. She enjoyed giving him the life and family he secretly craved, that he thought he had lost forever. Then Allen and Mina both were astounded by and enamoured with their bright little snowdrop, Tia, who brought so much joy into their home! Their wild little toddler was everything both of them had wanted, only making their current situation all the more painful. |
