House Barlas
House Barlas is considered to be the most powerful noble family in all of the Kingdom of Alsona, besides the house of Queen Miranda Taeylorr herself. Commanding the loyalty of numerous lords and lesser noble houses, the Barlases have often placed themselves as the clear rivals for the throne and the future of the Alsonan people. In recent years, with the outbreak of the Wingo War and the subsequent defeat within it, the Barlases have repositioned themselves for the first time in decades. They have decried the throne for the loss of the war and have begun to rally disenfranchised nobles to their banner, and more xenophobic elements of Alsonan society, by railing against the deprecations of the dwarves and elves during the war.
Public Agenda
The house stands very firmly and publicly against the elves and dwarves of the Tenashi Kingdom and Valtkos Wingo, respectively. The members of House Barlas regularly remind the people of Alsona of the grave crimes and assaults committed by these races during the Wingo War, and call for vengeance. Thanks to their power and influence, they are some of the only open sources of opposition and dissent to the monarchy, and have proven untouchable, always falling just short of calling for the removal of the Royal House.
Assets
House Barlas is incredibly wealthy, dominating leadership of the city of Pegrama, one of the largest urban centers in the entire kingdom of Alsona. The taxes and collections made within Pegrama have helped advance the treasury of the house exponentially, despite taking a hit during the Wingo War. This has allowed the house to maintain their own private army and levies, the only remaining noble family in Alsona to retain their military power after the conflict. These soldiers are mostly mercenaries and veterans of the war, giving them ample experience in combat and dealing with others. They also own substantial estates in and around the city and surrounding areas, providing foodstuffs and trade goods. They have since managed to diversify their holdings, and own portions of nearly every enterprise of value in the kingdom.
