Neigstetten Settlement in Ekozia | World Anvil

Neigstetten

Neigstetten is a small town in the western area of Wunnewalden at the northern edge of the Serrenten Mountains and at the spring of the northern arm of the Fenoria Stream. The main area of the village is build onto a rather steep incline with the buildings looking almost stacked upon each other from afar.   Despite being severely far off from most trading routes, Neigstetten still has a good amount of visitors and industry. The waterfalls and springs of the Fenoria Stream are a good opportunity for the local salt mine and woodworks to ship their goods to Selversheyn, Taymtstrom and most towns of the Fenorian Cities within the Gamian Group.

The Trouble with goats

Aside from mining and woodworking, the locals engage mostly in herding Darkcoat Goat and hunting game in the mysterious Wunnewalden. Other cattle is almost not viable, due to the relatively sparse vegetation on the mountain edge and the dense forest on the lower lands. The herders sometimes have difficulty with a wild Darcoat Goat herd, where the matriarch tries to free the settlement's herds from their confinements. There has been a bounty on set on Old Mother Goat, but hunters are asked to catch her alive or merely scare her away. This biannual hunt has started to develop into a less serious event, where most of the village participates.

Waterfalls, Caverns, and bridges

The settlement is well known for its beautiful waterfalls, from many warm springs flowing together into natural overhangs. The winding road up the village has multiple bridges across streams and turns into small caverns behind waterfalls as well. The houses are all covered extensivley in green and blue Myridias Moss.

Mysterious Ancient Tower

On top of the village stands the abandonned Blue Wunnewalden Tower, which has been subject of many mysteries about the old people that lived in the Wunnewalden centuries ago. It is also claimed that Vitukua had rested in this area for several days during his search for the dragons.

Salt mines

One major industry in Neigstetten are the local salt mines. At the foot of some cliff faces, rich salt deposits can be found close to the surface and miners have found at least five different layers of different types of salt. The quality is well known throughout Caramiza and even settelments as far away as Walkust import the salt. Almost every week, a ship loaded with salt is sailing down the Fenoria River towards its trading partners of the Gamian Bund.

Public showers

While many settlements in Caramiza have a bath house, especially when close to warm springs like this one, the bath house in Neigstetten is the first to have publicly available showers with warm water all day and night. A clever system of canals and pipes is used to divert some of the waterfalls into the bathhouse, to offer anybody in the village free water to clean themselves and to drink - the water is always very clear and great to drink!

Salt Basin

The warm salt basins of Neigstetten are another part of their bath houses worth a visit. Filed with warm, clear water from the springs, a basin lined with colorful rocksalt is a great place to relax. Visitors are advised not to drink the water and to avoid staying in longer then an hour but many elderly in Neigstetten swear of its beneficial effects to their health.
