Walkust Settlement in Ekozia | World Anvil

Walkust

Walkust is a rather small village considering the actual population but gained essential significance as a harbor for the Whale Oil Industry. Set at the shores of the Gamian Seas and the mouth of the river Caluda, it has become a big harbor thanks to the investment of several industries. Along the shore, there have been constructed multiple warehouses and production facilities, and during the week the number of workers is almost ten times the amount of actual inhabitants.   Walkust is a great place to admire the daylight aurora that shimmers over the sea. The Aurora is a phenomenon caused by the strong ambient magic in the area, which incidentally also increases the fertility and number of whales in the area. These factors contribute heavily to the growth of the industry. As the production of oil is a literally dirty business, many areas of the village are covered in black oil. Every barrel in the settlement is covered black, giving the settlement the nickname "Black Barrels".   The actual inhabitants were initially unhappy with the sudden growth of the settlement and have tried to stop some of the factory's undertakings. However, many of the townsfolk have been well compensated for their land and places at the shore. As a result, the town council is also part of the board union of whale industry companies, with the illusion of being able to influence the decisions.

Additional Information

The river and the sea are very polluted by the industry. So much that Walkust needs to import drinking water from villages in the vicinity.   Day laborers can easily find work in Walkust, as the warehouses always need people for stocking and refining procedures. However, no worker should ever take up a job in warehouse Number 3. There is no Warehous number 3.   The oil does contain an unusual amount of magical energy. This has side-effects on the many many oil-covered surfaces in the village, most prominently seen by some black shimmering mushrooms growing almost everywhere.
