HHI Session 27: Snowdrop

General Summary

Month 6, Week 2, Year 908
After a quick departure from Kori the Seeking Scorpions continued their voyage towards Kita Outpost and a dreaded reunion with the Gatekeeper. As the riverways twisted northwards, the temperature dropped and the grass turned frosty even in these midsummer months. Their trusty vessel The Minnow would brave the vast waters of the Arrayas Ocean for the first time, but not before the party adopted a winter wolf.    One evening Ithilwen noticed movement between the trees of the nearby woods, a large wolf with snow-white fur stalking the party's ship. Hoping for an animal companion, Ithilwen spent the day hunting for game and with Siegfried's help made several unappetizing meat patties for the beast. That night she camped out on the edge of the river next to the ship, Ownka and Siegfried helping to keep watch for any signs of the wolf.    The wolf showed up, surprising the party with a blast of cold air shot from its mouth. This wolf was hostile at first, but after eating a few meat patties and calmed by Ithilwen's expert animal handling skills it slowly warmed up to the ranger. Meanwhile, the wolf's two allies leapt from the shadows and started tearing Siegfried limb from limb. The wolf that Ithilwen befriended tried to call them off, and one of them was convinced to take a meat patty and run. The other wolf, a battle-scarred pack leader, wouldn't settle for anything less than Siegfried's corpse. With Mavis' Eldritch Blasts hitting everything except the target it was up to Ownka and Ithilwen to save their paladin before he became wolf food. The pack leader was eventually killed, leaving the group to limp back to The Minnow with a new pet in tow. Ithilwen named him Snowdrop.    The voyage took a slower pace over the next few days as the party took more time to hunt for Snowdrop's food. Ithilwen's magic helped her communicate with the wolf, promising to feed him interesting foods so long as he agreed not to eat Mavis. Maiko and Sora wanted more pay now that they had to deal with a wolf on board, and some of those higher wages came out of Ithilwen's own moneybag.    But the party finally arrived in Kita Outpost, a small settlement and port-of-last-resort for those sailing through the northernmost reaches of Pescaliat. A firbolg named Yinfir welcomed the party at the docks, helping them find rooms at the only tavern in town. As Mavis started fliriting with the yuan-ti barkeep, Ownka went out searching for some better armor. She was pleased to find a full set of plate armor at the lone blacksmith forge, carefully crafted over the years in Thorvald-style to wrap around the entire body. Siegfried convinced the blacksmith to silver his glaive, renting out a rusty katana until it was finished. There was also a thrift shop in the center of town, a place where it was a roll of the dice to find what you were looking for. Ithilwen managed to find a Glace-style winter coat for the cold climate, but Siegfried couldn't find any warpaint. He did, however, find a creepy Sardivelian theater mask that proved a more than perfect replacement.     Searching for interesting meats to feed Snowdrop, Ithilwen convinced a couple of firbolg trappers to take her wyvern hunting that night. Ownka and Siegfried agreed to come along, but not before a sparring match where Siegfried proved victorious. Even Mavis decided to join the hunt, despite a meeting scheduled with the Gatekeeper tomorrow. What's another day if you're already more than a week late?
