The University of Magical Improvement

The Dark Moon Ward in Paris is a place full of arcanism and wonder, and there is no place more Arcane and Wonderful than the University of Magical Improvement. TUMI for short hosts a wide variety of classes and opportunities for apprentice and learned Magic Casters. While they prefer that students have finished basic education or the equivalent thereof, they also have younger education options for those who have intense magical potential, such as promising Sorcerers. Classes are held throughout a wide variety of buildings connected by an isolated tram system, to keep the potential magical effects separate from each other, and also so various Magical Businesses could take some of the central area, rather than the school taking up too much city space. While there is a Tuition fee, due to city sponsorship and state funding, it's a mere Gold (real-life 100 USD) per Class, Per Quarter, with a maximum of 5 courses being allowed for students, and there is an abundance of scholarships present for fledgling mages.   Students are free to attend as long as they desire for their personal magical abilities, although those who wish to become professional Arcanists can obtain a variety of degrees from the college. On average, a successful 4-quarter education will grant you the rank of "Mage of [Insert Speciality Here]", 8-quarter education will grant you the status of "High Mage of [Speciality]", 12-quarter education will gain you the title of "Magus of [Speciality]", and a 16-quarter education will grant you the title of "High Magus of [Speciality]". There are different titles for different casting classes, but these are the general certificates. Additionally, High Magus students can choose to undergo the Archmage and Archmagus courses, which will take longer, but have more advanced magic knowledge, along with higher notoriety and plenty of field-research included.   Along with the traditional Wizardly Schools, the college also teaches the following:
  • Contract Magic
  • Null Magic
  • Blood Magic
  • Theoretical Chronomancy
  • Dunamancy
  • Bardic Lore
  • Divine Magical Application
  • Applied Magical Theory
  • Caster "Origin" Studies
  • Combative Magic Casting
  • Psionic Study and Applications
  • Along with several courses provided in tandem with other educational institutions in the city.

Purpose / Function

To teach, train, and prepare the next generations of casters in Paris, and potentially throughout Edda. The college has recently grown to include theoretical studies of magic in the lens of Science rather than purely Arcanism, so it's adding in some magic-incapable students as well.

Sensory & Appearance

The enchanting features of the academic buildings usually give it a smell of rich oxygen, like the peak of a snowy mountain, and the sound of soft bells can be heard throughout the district.

Alterations

The college has had many alterations and additions throughout its millennia of activity. However, after The Border Wars, it underwent its biggest renovation to update the systems and materials of the school that just recently were finished in the spring of 1007 AC.

Architecture

The college buildings are mixed into the local neighborhoods but are easy to tell apart with their tall, circular structure, appearing like smaller castles and estates in the blocks, with bluestone and white wood, with the school's symbol of a raven in flight emblazoned on the doors.

Tourism

TUMI is mostly attended by those who are local to Paris, or at least the eastern half of Atalanta, as there are institutions in Eris and Helen that rival it on the west coast. But, they do have some cultural exchange students that attend from other countries.
