Ashen Despot
The Ashen Despot is a tavern/gambling den in the Banka District of Mantlemine. It acts as one of the many front businesses for the operations of The Emerald Claws and is a very popular spot for members of The Emerald Claws. It is owned by Batrie Siltdrinker, and the card dealer Reen Bean is quite popular for his jokes.
Purpose / Function
To provide a place of respite and entertainment for members of The Emerald Claws. It also accepts outsiders to the gang, though never accepts anyone associated in any way with The Crimson Knives.
Architecture
The Ashen Despot is a ramshackle building located on the western side of Mantlemine's Banka District. It is built into a string of houses placed almost flush against the side of Mantlemine's Foundation. The tavern stands out among the adjacent houses by the golden light that spills out of the two large windows placed on each side of the door. Above the door is a sign designed to look like a playing card with the words "The Ashen Despot" carved into it. The inside of the building is much larger than it appears on the outside as it is partly built into the Foundation, which on the inside is indicated by the transition from the walls being made of wood to being made of stone bricks. The wooden portion of the tavern outside the Foundation is the primary tavern portion with tables and the bar, and the stone part inside the Foundation is where the gambling happens. Hidden in the storeroom under a crate is a secret trapdoor that leads to the secret tunnels through the Foundation.
Defenses
Both Reen Bean and Batrie Siltdrinker (along with the other employees) are members of The Emerald Claws and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.
