Dawn Age in Earedar | World Anvil

Dawn Age

With Dawn Age comes the beginnings of The Realms as we know it, when the realm of Earedar began to take shape. The Divines travelled throughout the cosmos, each adding their separate gift to creation. The eldest, Vraekar, gave life to the world, populating it with the beasts of the land and creatures from the deep. Vraekar also gave life to the race of Giants, the oldest of the sentient races. The first people to walk the face of Earedar, they ruled the world for untold eons, and even today their heritage is reflected in the fact that they are the only remaining race to maintain the use of the Old Tounge. Next was Charon's gift, who sought to give  both meaning and balance to his elder brother's creation, creating death. "All things must end, and it is only through death that life is renewed." Thus, goes the dogma of the Apostles of the End.

The next gifts came from the twins, Arishanne and Ravenna. Arishanne set the sun ablaze with her blood, giving both heat and life to her brother's creations. Ravenna was taken aback by the blaze however, and thus decreed that the sun may only remain in the sky for half of the time, to grant her peace. Arishanne was very upset at this however, and appealed to her elder brother for assistance. Frustrated at their petulance Vraekar created the moon, Eilenn, and the stars, so that way even at night Arishanne's creatures would find comfort and guidance. Vraekar also decreed however that occasionally that same moon that brought comfort to her creatures would bring her sorrow, when it would from time to time completely block out the sun, bringing night to day. Thus, balance was restored.

The final gift came from Celestine, who looked up the gifts of her siblings with wonder and awe. Determined to create something just as beautiful, Celestine tore out a piece of her divine spark and set it ablaze in the universe, allowing magic to flow through The Realms. It is Celestine's Gift that gave the gift of magic to the mortal races, this small piece of our own divinity. It is because of this action that every being has an inherent magical power.

What the Divines did not realize however is that they were no longer the sole creators in the universe. During the fall of Iskarne and Xultar there were other beings created out of the destruction, the Primordials. Beings of chaos, they roamed through the planes creating as they saw fit, giving life to such beings as Elementals, Genies, and the Fey Races as well as other powerful beings. Beings of both good and evil, the primordials were diverse and proud. But the first meeting of the two titanic beings would prove fortuitous.

As Charon wandered the Nether Abyss with his sister Ravenna, they chanced upon the primordial Aeos the Timelord, who was in the process of creating time. Taken aback, they attacked him, not understanding the power of the primordial. When Aeos responded, Charon disappeared. Saddened and afraid at the apparent death of her brother, Ravenna fled back to her siblings, who had made their home in the now lost realm of Orobeus. Upon hearing of the death of his brother, Vraekar was incensed, and declared war upon the primordials. And thus, the Chaos Wars began.

The battle raged heavily between the primordials, led by Khazmijir, known as the Prince of Anarchy, and the Divines led by Vraekar. The mortal races fought alongside their creators; giants, elementals, fey and genie-kind alike. Not all primordials fought on behalf of Khazmijir however, and there were a few who crossed over the line to join the forces of the Divines. Most notably among this number are Caenum, Solas, Fevris, Renmann and Teberix, who would become the Elemental Lords after the war for their efforts.

After millennia of war it was Celestine who discovered that no matter how well they fought, and how many of the enemy they killed, the dead on both sides kept coming back. It seems with Charon gone it was impossible for anyone to die. In the absence of the Aspect of Death their souls were simply recycled through the cosmic drain. Furious, Vraekar plotted another solution. Using his Aspect of Creation to create an entirely new realm of existence, he then challenged Khazmijir and his folk to a climactic battle there. Taking up his challenge, when Khazmijir and his folk arrived, they discovered they were alone, and together the Divines and their allied primordials sealed shut this prison-realm, which would come to be known as El' Shanayah. It was so that the Dawn Age ended with the Divines and their allies triumphant, and Vraekar was declared the Lord of Creation.
