Nynd Trouts

Útelic: Nynd /nɪːnt/, nyned /nɪnɛːt/
Nynd trouts1 are one of the most common species species of fish found in the temperate woodlands of western Dragonía, specifically in Úvelan Lake and Eastern Óf south of the lake in Ela'k Forest and the river Húrr in Jarrak Forest further south. Most of the trouts also migrate up the Vikrú River in southwestern Dragonía to spawn, though a small number of them do so in creeks in Ela'k Forest as well.

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

The trouts variously feed on aquatic snails, insects or crustaceans, smaller fish or zooplankton, with the latter being more common in Úvelan Lake.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Útels

The Útels who inhabit Ela'k Forest, specifically those in the countries of Malónat and Kaiqonon, have long fished for nynd trouts, as did their Alalarían predecessors. The fish is traditionally boiled or fried, variously served with eggs, anam lettuce or þavúk roots and, among the Kaiqons in particular, generously spiced with palók.

Kroks

The reptilian Kroks caught and dried nynd trouts during their migration from Kvaror to Vorran Peninsula, which millennia later is still commemorated by the Kroks living along Súveb River during the vló salmon run. The link between the two is considered so strong in some communities that according to local legends, the salmons were created when the shaman who led the Kroks to the peninsula threw some the trouts' bones into the Súveb.
