Dire Beasts

One might call these the simplest of the creatures altered by magical means, but do not let this characterization lead you to believe they are not still worth study or concern should you encounter them in the wild. Dire beasts are first and foremost categorized by their exceptional size relative to their normal, non-magical counterparts, often also being called “giant” interchangeably with “dire.” They also tend to be much stronger and faster, as well as somewhat smarter. It is speculated that they are survivors from the age of giants, before the elder dragons wiped them from existence. While they are certainly large, they are not so big proportionally to their mundane cousins as the giants were said to be, so this claim would need further support to be verified as true. Some will dominate an area and claim the territory as their own, while others will lead packs or herds of their ordinary kin.
