Giant Apes
Incredibly rare and sometimes thought extinct during the long periods between sightings, the giant apes of Syridia rule the hearts of the jungle. Called “forest kings” by the high elves and simply known as “kong” in Faelene.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Generally covered in black fur that loses pigment to white with age, the oldest documented apes were around seventy years old. The males have a distinctive silver color across their back, making them easy to differentiate from the females. Multiple reports of a red furred ape with somewhat different facial features have also been gathered, but it is unclear if this is one individual or a separate subspecies. Their diets consist mainly of fruits, nuts, and leaves, but will also scavenge carcasses if they happen across them. They live in small family troupes in the deep, impenetrable reaches of the Cursed Jungle.
Additional Information
Average Intelligence
Fiercely territorial, the apes have learned to fight and kill humanoid races they come across before they can flee and come back in force. Clearly highly intelligent, they seem to communicate with one another using a complex language of vocalizations and gestures. Chroniclers who have set out to study this communication style have not returned.
