Person: Was the Great Rebellion a success?
Me: Well no, but actually yes.
The Conflict
Prelude
Strikes, riots, terrorist acts, etc. The main cause behind these was a hefty poll tax that the UHN imposed on the population at the same time as scrapping both income tax and VAT for the promotion of corporate success, just so happening to be coinciding with many large businesses being more able to plant officials into/bribe those already within governments to push forward policies that would benefit said corporations. This had a wonderful sprinkling of numerous government scandals coming out and the ease with which the The LIR or League of Intelligent Races had been beaten in the last war, pairing brilliantly with how the LIR was actually letting humans in, making people think that a united human government wasn't actually necessary for the survival of humanity - especially not one that had a policy of violently arresting protesters, regardless of what the protesters were protesting or how peacefully. Communism was becoming an increasingly popular idea as society became less and less equal and larger and larger portions of the population were being left behind in poverty.
The rebels did a mixture of bombing campaigns (mostly at government centers) and attempts at open combat with the military. Almost all attempts to fight the military failed, resulting in the rebels losing. A common tactic was to start up riots
10 soldiers in exoskeleton combat gear (looking like Halo spartans) vs 200 rock throwers. Soldiers would almost always win.
The UHN becoming even more tyrannical and giving producers even more freedoms while consumers faced heavier restrictions.
Uhh, UHN... in the midst of your whole "massive 0% interest loans for already-large businesses!" and "what if we made taxes ridiculously low for the massive corporations that happen to have the most to pay up?" you ended up being unable to pay your own soldiers so just years later they revolted against you and made the
CHG . Real Big Brain move there.
Historical Significance
Led to the CHG-UHN War, which led to the CHG, which led to
Jeff the insanely intelligent AI , which led to the awesomeness of Matter Duplication , Fold-Up Portals , Time Compression/Bending , space compression and much more.
Known as the spark that started the "you're screwed if your own military rebels against you" fire. Heavily romanticized in CHG propaganda as a rebellion against tyrants.
Fought using railguns (long range+stealth) and plasma blasters (thicc damage+not stealth) on the part of the soldiers, who also looked like your average Halo space marine/spartan, against civilians with rusty pipes and bricks.
