Ostervand
The beating heart of the Kingdom of Breaton's grainlands, Ostervand while not the largest settlement is arguably one of the most precious. Acting as a hub for all edible goods that feed the Kingdom it has grown rapidly since its founding. The markets here are filled with all kinds of wonderous treasures and delicacies from the surrounding towns and distant lands.
Government
The town of Ostervand is governed by an appointed Minister from the Crown. The Minister has effective total control over the day-to-day within Ostervand and can act as Judge regarding any matters of law within the town. A higher Minister from the Crown can superceed their ruling if they deem it incorrect. Local members of the community hold some sway in decision making but ultimatly answer to the Minister.
Defences
There are several wood and stone fortifications around the perimeter of Ostervand as well as a larger stone keep within the town. The settlement is bordered by a chest high wall with a small ditch acting as an outer defence. Guards patrol the outskirts regularly day and night, with torches lit come dusk to allow better sight for those in higher defences.
The keep is able to house the nobility and any visitors of import if the town is besieged, it cannot hold the entier population of Ostervand as it was built when the settlement was much smaller.
Infrastructure
Ostervand sits halfway between the capitol city of Stockcross and the port town of Farre granting it good access to the rest of the Kingdom. It also acts as a trade hub for the smaller towns of Boroughton and Demarsh. There is a semi-paved road that traverses North to South on the borders of the town, while the interior is a cobblestone network of smaller roads and alleys. To the East are two dirt roads that lead into the fertile farmlands.
Higher officials have access to the teleportation network within the Kingdom that resides within the town hall, though this is guarded by the military.
History
In 1200 the town was sacked by forces from the Driston Empire who struck every building except the Temple to the Harvest.
In 1315 the town suffered two months of turmoil that would become known as Wilhard's Trial.
