Boroughton
The last settlement on the road from the Kingdom of Breaton to the Driston Empire resting on the edges of fields and the Owlpin Grove.
Demographics
Due to Boroughton's proximity to the Owlpin Grove there is a significant population of Wood Elfs and Half-elfs of this liniage, both of these make up around 60% of the village. The residents here live simple lives sustining on small holdings and hunting, there are few people here who claim to be noble in station and those that do are considered amoung the lowest in the Kingdom.
Government
The village is governed by a minister appointed by the Kingdom from Stockcross, typically this minister will be a noble from the settlement who has been trained specifically for the role.
Defences
There are no major defences within or around Boroughton and most buildings are made single story with peaked roofs. There are a few stone buildings at the heart of the village and a single keep that was constructed by occupying Dristoners in 1139 that still stands nearly 50ft tall and 30ft wide. This tower can be seen from anywhere in the village and is used as a townhall, though nowadays it cannot host all the residents.
Industry & Trade
Boroughton relies on itself for almost all required goods with select imports from both the Driston Empire and Kingdom of Breaton. Residents make monthly visits to the nearby town of Ostervand for its markets. There is a small hospitality industry here as it is last marked settlement for anyone departing the Kingdom on their journey east to the Driston Empire.
History
Boroughton suffered heavily during the War of Tears with most of its residents being conscripted by the Kingdom. These unlucky farmers were massacred during the first assualt by Driston forces in 1136 resulting in the sacking of the village and subsequent occupation. This occupation would only be lifted in 1221 as the Driston Empire's attention was forced elsewhere and the remaining garrison recalled, but by this point many families had been started by soldiers and locals.
Points of interest
On the southern edge of the village there is a large graveyard that was made by the surviving residents after the first assualt and following occupation by Driston forces in 1136. This graveyard also houses a small shrine to all soldiers that lost their lives in the War of Tears on both sides.
There is a temple to Tellurayve within the town, this building is considered to be the oddest within Boroughton as it is made of stone, wood and animal parts. The entrance is guarded by a set of massive antlers above a low door.
The Wheatsheaf tavern is the best, and only, place for travellers to stay within Boroughton if they have no family there.
Rennick's Darkflame Forge supplies any metalwork required by the town using imported iron and local freshwater from the villages small river. Rennick believes himself a master forger, and often overplays the heritage of his works.
Hulfir's General Goods is where one could find all manner of useful items from horse tack to building materials and farming tools.
Climate
The weather here is calm and pleasent thanks to the shielding effect of the Owlpin Grove. During the winter the it rarely snows but rain is frequent. A gentle wind is often blowing from the east that rustles the nearby fields and trees.
