Temple to the Harvest

A temple dedicated to Tellurayve within the town of Ostervand.

Purpose / Function

Founded to give praise to Tellurayve after a decade of plentiful harvests the temple was originally a stone storage barn for grain.    It now acts as the largest religious building within Ostervand and the surrounding region. While primarily dedicated to Tellurayve the temple does offer religious funeral rites and worship to the other gods within the Beru pantheon at the end of each tenday.

Alterations

The original structure can no longer be seen as it was demolished in 1090 and the stone reclaimed to aid in the expansion into its current shape. After the War of Tears a subterranian crypt was constructed to house the dead until the proper funeral rites could be held, this has since been expanded twice to encorporate larger chambers for wealthy families and notable figures with the Ostervand community.

Architecture

The building is made of dark local stone and wooden supports to lift the vaulted roof. At the western edge of the structure sits the main tower that can be seen from a moderate distance. This crenulated monolith acts as a reference point for approaching caravans as from each side hangs a coloured sail. The north face has a red banner, the east has a yellow banner, the south has a blue banner and the west has a green banner,    The interior is well lit with broad windows and Lightrocks along the stone walls. On the western wall sits an ornate stained glass window depicting Tellurayve in the center, surrounded by hunters chasing wild game, farmers tending fields and fruit baring trees in bloom. During sunsets on clear days this causes a prism of colour to splash across the carved floors.    As you enter the building you are greeted by a 10ft tall stone carving of Tellurayve holding a sickle in his right hand while a basket sits in the crook of his left. Visitors to the temple often leave fresh produce within this basket as an offering to the god.

History

During the 1200 raid of Ostervand the temple was the only building not damaged or plundered by the invading Driston forces. Locals still tell tales of how the Dristoners were too scared to insult Tellurayve knowing their own lands would suffer. People who live on the eastern edge of Ostervand speak of how in times of stress, the predatory animals patrol the borders hungry for Dristoners.
