Voklajak Road

The Voklajak Road is a dwarven-style roadway connecting the settlements of Thoriktown and Aktrout, located in the Desecrated Hills region of central Tarteria.   "Voklajak" is orcish for "dwarven stone". Though the words were originally used to deride the roadway as un-orcish, the dwarves, in an attempt to be conscientious of orcish culture, took this as the orc’s name for it, then calling it Voklajak Road themselves.

Description

The Voklajak Road is approximately one hundred miles in length, running east to west. It connects Thoriktown on its western end to Aktrout on its eastern end.   The Voklajak Road connects to the Orc Highway in Aktrout at the Aktrout Crossroads. The meeting point is a stark line between the packed earth of the Orc Highway, and the regimented and even cut dwarven stone of the much newer Voklajak Road.   The Voklajak is a perfect example of dwarven masonry, made with evenly cut stone laid in a straight, planned pattern. From Aktrout, the road crosses the Rexun River by drawbridge and heads up towards Thoriktown in the Khushuut Mountains.

History

The Fifth Age: The Age of Beginnings
After the founding of Thoriktown, construction began on a stone roadway leading from the settlement eastward towards the Rexun River and Aktrout. The traditionalist orcs of Aktrout called the new roadway "Voklajak" as a term of derision. However, the name stuck, and the road would come to be properly known as Voklajak Road.   5A 352
On 12 Adroth 5A 352, Andras Ashforge and several dwarves of the Hands of Ore guild set out from Thoriktown on the Voklajak Road. They reached Aktrout on 16 Adroth.   On 26 Adroth 5A 352, Gertrude Oathenhammer examined the quality of the road while waiting for the Varg Barges to return to transport the rest of the Lightbringers to Aktrout.
