History

Origins and Founding

The Kingdom of Asiendal traces its origins back over 50 millennia to the Age of Dawn, a time when the land was young and the forces of magic were newly discovered. It was during this age that the first Asiendalian, led by the legendary King Eremon Mordos, established a settlement in the heart of what is now Asiendal. These early settlers were drawn to the rich, fertile lands and the abundant natural resources, which included rare ores such as Aetherium and Mithrillium.   Under the King's guidance and teachings, the people began to harness the power of magic and nature, laying the foundations for a kingdom that would become the envy of the world. The early years were marked by exploration and discovery, as the asiendalians learned to blend their inherent magical abilities with the bounty of the land.

The First Demon War

Asiendal’s peace was shattered in the Year of Shadows, when the first wave of demon invaders, led by the fearsome Demon Commander Varkhul Bloodwrath, crossed into the kingdom. The demons, drawn by the rich resources and magical energy of Asiendal, sought to conquer and plunder.   The First Demon War was a time of great trial for Asiendal. King Eremon, with his trusted generals and the fledgling magic-wielders of the kingdom, led a valiant defense. The asiendalians, although unprepared for such a ferocious enemy at that time, showed incredible resilience and ingenuity. Utilizing the magical properties of Luminite and Starshade Sapphire, they crafted powerful defensive wards and weapons. After a decade of brutal conflict, they managed to slay Varkhul Bloodwrath in the Battle of the Radiant Fields, securing a hard-won victory and establishing their reputation as formidable defenders of their realm.

The Golden Age of Asiendal

Following the First Demon War, Asiendal entered a period known as the Golden Age, a time of unparalleled growth and prosperity. The kingdom expanded its borders, discovering new resources and establishing trade routes. The capital city, Issgrammor, was founded during this time, becoming a hub of commerce, culture, and magic.   It was during the Golden Age that the asiendalians discovered the ancient dragon sanctuaries hidden deep within the mountains of Asiendal. The dragons, recognizing that these asiendalians had respect for nature and magic and were led by Eremon Mordos, who by then was known as a Dragon God, formed a sacred bond with them. This alliance brought immense benefits, including shared knowledge and mutual protection. The dragons became revered beings, worshipped in grand temples and celebrated in annual festivals.

The Second Demon War

The Second Demon War erupted nearly a millennium after the first, led by the sinister Demon Commander Malphax the Corrupter. Malphax, a master of dark magic, sought to plunge Asiendal into chaos and darkness. This war was marked by devastating battles and horrific losses, as the demons used foul sorcery to corrupt the land and its inhabitants.   The charismatic leader that he is, he rallied his people and the dragons to defend their homeland. The war culminated in the Siege of the Eternal Citadel, where Eremon personally confronted and defeated Malphax, sealing him away in a realm of eternal torment. This victory solidified Eremon’s status as a legendary ruler and protector of Asiendal.

The Age of Enlightenment

In the aftermath of the Second Demon War, Asiendal entered the Age of Enlightenment. This era was characterized by significant advancements in magic, technology, and culture. The asiendalians developed steampunk inventions and integrated them with their magic, creating a unique blend of technology known as magitech. Enchanted airships, steam-powered carriages, and intricate clockwork automatons became commonplace, revolutionizing transportation and daily life.   Educational institutions flourished, with vast libraries and academies dedicated to the study of arcane arts and technological innovations. Scholars from across the globe traveled to Asiendal to learn from the asiendalians’ vast repositories of knowledge. This period also saw the rise of gemcraft, with artisans creating powerful magical artifacts from rare gems like Dragonfire Ruby and Moonstone Quartz.

The Third and Fourth Demon Wars

The Third and Fourth Demon Wars were sparked by attempts of demonic resurgence, led by Demon Commanders Zargoth the Devourer and Xylaris Nightbane, respectively. Both wars were brutal, but the Asiendalian nation, now more experienced and technologically advanced, managed to repel the invaders. The dragons played a crucial role in these conflicts, their immense power turning the tide in many battles.   Zargoth the Devourer met his end in the Battle of the Burning Skies, where an alliance of dragonriders and magitech artillery overwhelmed his forces. Xylaris Nightbane was defeated in the Siege of the Shimmering Spires, where the combined might of Asiendalian spellcasters and dragonfire obliterated the demonic horde.

The Fifth and Sixth Demon Wars

The Fifth and Sixth Demon Wars were the longest and most destructive, led by the cunning Demon Commander Azrak the Deceiver and the brutal Varak the Despoiler. These wars tested Asiendal’s resolve to the limit, as the demons employed new tactics and powerful dark magic.   King Alexander Mordos, son of Eremon, rose to prominence during these conflicts. His strategic genius and unwavering leadership were pivotal in securing victory. He joined his father as the King of Begierdeland and at the Battle of the Crystal Plains saw Azrak the Deceiver outmaneuvered and slain himself. Varak the Despoiler’s demise came at the climactic Battle of Dragon’s Roost, where a united force of Elves, asiendalians and dragons, and enchanted war machines finally crushed the demonic threat.

The Seventh Demon War

The Seventh Demon War, the most recent and devastating conflict, was led by the dread Demon Commander Zalathar Voidwalker. Zalathar sought to merge the demonic realm with Asiendal, threatening to engulf the entire kingdom in darkness. This war saw unprecedented destruction, with entire cities laid to waste and the land itself scarred by dark magic.   King Alexander, now a seasoned leader, orchestrated a daring plan with his father to end the war once and for all. In a final, epic confrontation at the Gates of Oblivion, the allied forces, supported by ancient dragon guardians and the most powerful magitech weapons ever created, confronted Zalathar. The battle was fierce and costly, but in the end, Zalathar was defeated, his essence banished to the void.

The Age of Rebirth

With the end of the Seventh Demon War, Asiendal entered the Age of Rebirth. The kingdom, though scarred by centuries of conflict, began to rebuild and renew itself. King Eremon's leadership ensured that the wounds of war were healed, and the people of Asiendal looked to the future with hope and determination.   New advancements in magitech and gemcraft spurred a renaissance of culture and innovation. The bond between asiendalians and dragons grew even stronger, cementing their partnership for generations to come. Asiendal’s cities, rebuilt with a blend of traditional elegance and modern innovation, stood as symbols of resilience and progress.

This dual leadership structure fosters a sense of unity and mutual respect between the two species.   Asiendal's military is formidable, combining the might of dragons with advanced steampunk weaponry and magical defenses. Elite dragon riders, clad in armor forged from Mithrillium and enchanted with protective spells, serve as the vanguard of the kingdom's defense.
