Zal'voreth

Nestled in the heart of the Shadowdepths, the vast and mysterious underground realm beneath the Asiendalian mountains, lies Zal'Voreth, the grand capital of the Drow civilization. This city is a masterpiece of subterranean architecture, carved intricately into the walls of a massive, cathedral-like cavern, illuminated by the soft, ethereal glow of bioluminescent flora and magical crystals. It stands as a testament to the Drow's remarkable craftsmanship, arcane mastery, and deep connection to the shadowy beauty of their underground world.

Geography and Environment

Zal'Voreth is located in the sprawling Underground Region of Asiendal, known as the Shadowdepths, a realm filled with twisting caverns, bioluminescent landscapes, and mysterious phenomena. The city itself is positioned near one of the largest underground rivers, The River of Shadows, which provides vital resources and transportation. Zal'Voreth’s architecture blends seamlessly with the natural formations of the cavern, with buildings carved from obsidian, onyx, and crystal, creating a mesmerizing cityscape of towering spires and elegant bridges that seem to glow in the dim light.   Purple Tree Forests: Outside the city, vast forests of Shadowoaks, trees with deep purple bark and leaves, stretch across the underground horizon. These mystical trees are unique to the Shadowdepths and have become symbols of the Drow's connection to the land and their mastery of magic.   Starstone Clusters: Dotting the city and surrounding caverns are large crystal formations known as Starstones, which provide natural illumination and serve as potent magical foci for the city's spellcasters. Gem Forests and Heartjade: In the depths surrounding Zal'Voreth are Gem Forests where trees made of precious stones grow, their glittering branches a source of wealth and wonder. The Drow mine the Heartjade, massive blood-red gems embedded in the cavern walls, for their magical and aesthetic value, incorporating them into their cities and weapons.   Tentacles of the Deep: Occasionally, mysterious tentacles rise from the deep subterranean lakes, hinting at the existence of ancient, colossal creatures lurking in the depths, adding a layer of danger and intrigue to the city’s surroundings.

Beneath them, common Drow fill roles as artisans, merchants, warriors, and mages.   The Temple of Night: At the center of the city stands the Temple of Night, dedicated to the Drow pantheon, with deities associated with darkness, magic, and stealth. The Blackguard, elite warriors, patrol the city, while the Shadow Weavers, the most powerful Drow mages, protect the city’s borders and enforce the will of the noble houses.   Markets of Mystique: The city's markets are filled with rare goods from the Shadowdepths and beyond. Artisans sell wares crafted from the unique resources of the underground, including magical items, bioluminescent flora, and powerful artifacts.
