Dewin
The Dewin is the mage Guild of the in service of the Rhufein Empire. The archmage is Oman Sevanas. They used to be based in Blackstar in the land of Serana in order to gain a foothold in the other lands. But recently they have returned to Capital City in order to stabilize the city more as it has been quite disturbed by the many guilds which run rampant in the city.
They let anyone enlist in the guild who has a bit of magical talent and whoever does a small mission for them. Members of the guild are obligated to research magic and to share it with the guild. The use of necromancy and illusion is strictly prohibited. Those who use that sort of magic will be expelled from the guild.
The Dewin uses the Theithos College as their main hub for teaching magic. It has a huge library with a lot of spellbooks, where students can go and study in order to learn new spells. The Dewin also collect numerous magic items which are deemed as legendary. From everywhere in the world when a member of the Dewin finds a magic item that is of legendary status, they can bring it to the guild, where it will be displayed in their own museum, the Arinar Museum, accessible to those with enough money to spend. That way the guild can earn some extra money, which always benefits everyone. Those who bring in the magic items, might get a monthly cut from the earnings.
Structure
The Archmage leads the Guild but he leaves the everyday tasks to Dro’ Vul Sto who serves as the archmage's right-hand man. Some teachers and students live in their respective chambers, though some richer members have a house in the city.
The ranks of the Dewin Guild are as follows, going from high to low:
- Archmage: The Archmage is the leader of the Dewin guild. He/she takes on the tasks of international importance upon them. That way they don't have to waste their time with mundane things. They are the spokesperson to the many highly important of Arthenos, from kings to emperors. Lesser members of the Dewin Guild will almost never see him, except if he made a speech to them on the annual celebration event of the Dewin Guild called Dewin Day.
- Circle of Trust: The Circle of Trust are the most valuable mages of the Dewin Guild and are in close contact with the Archmage. They debate on how the Dewin needs to present itself towards the outside but also decide what needs to happen inwards. They are responsible for the relation with the Rhufein Empire as well as the Rhufein Empire still legally owns the Dewin Guild, even though they have a lot of autonomy.
- Professor: Professors teach at the Theithos College magic to other students.
- Experimentalists: People in this function are under the service of the Avalon Laboratory where they help with research and experiments. The head experimenter is Godred Wilye.
- Researchers: Those who have gotten their doctorate at the college can get a position as a researcher. They have to research multiple subjects of magic.
- Doctorates: Students who show they are at the top of the class can try to get a doctorate after they graduate. When they are shown to be the elite of magic users, they can be given a function at the college where they work heavily on a particular subject. Every doctorate has someone guiding them in their project. This is someone who they intensely work with.
- Assistants: Assistants help with all the needs of the guild. They might help around the libraries, they might go on quests. Whatever someone higher up needs something an assistant will help them. What differentiates them from staff is that they can use magic
- Adventurers: Adventurers have more autonomy than students in the guild, meaning they don't have to continuously report to those higher than them. They are sent out for dangerous adventures to procure a magical item, retrieve a stolen book, or kill a magical beast.
- Students: There are many students at the college of the Dewin and many different courses can be taken. There is a standard course that every student has to take, but students are free to take courses that they would like. After four years of studying, the students graduate, and the Absolvire is organized, the graduation ceremony for all the graduates. Depending on what students choose as the subject of their thesis, they are granted the title of that respective school. For example, someone who has written their thesis on evocation will be named an evoker.
- Staff: The staff of the Dewin are the ordinary people who work at all the buildings the Dewin owns. They cook the food, clean the sheets, and dust the hallways. They get a decent wage for what they have to do. The head of staff is Sigmund Evermoor.
Culture
In this section I will outline the viewpoint of the Dewin towards the other guilds of Capital City:
Public Agenda
The Dewin believe that knowledge of the arcane is the only true power in this world. The Invasion of Spheres when Sartor, the Peion of Deception entered and attacked our realm, only proved the point of the Dewin that only magical power was true power. Therefore, there is an extreme culture of competition in the Dewin guild. Everyone wants to be the best and if you are seen as weak or as a liability then most members won't hesitate to sever ties with you because otherwise it would mean that it might impede their progress.
The Dewin want to better the world through magic. They believe magic is the way forward and is not something to be shunned. Many mages of the guild thus regret the ban on necromancy and illusion magic by the Rhufein Empire.
Assets
The magical artifacts are stored in the Arinar Museum, whose curator is Drakk, The Wise, who is in charge of keeping the museum safe. The Arinar Museum is a subgroup of the Dewin where some mages and artificers are looking into the magical artifacts to learn secrets, enhance their own magical items, or to become stronger spellcasters.
The immense Gandahar Library is where all the magical tomes of the Dewin are stored. This library is used by students of the college to learn more about magic. The head librarian is Arvak, the Mind-Bender who has a rigid system of sorting the books.
The Theithos College is where the Dewin is mostly grouped. Here students learn new magical abilities but many members are also sent to perform tasks or quests.
The Avalon Laboratory is where the Dewin does all its experiments. The head researcher is Godred Wilye.
