Cities of Heaven

The Cities of Heaven were created in the Dawn Age to serve as the homes of the gods and their followers. They are not a united organization by any means, and very often find themselves at war with one another due to the competing interests of their patron gods and the cults devoted to them. They are linked together through their common divine heritage, however, and all of them are major political and cultural centers in their own right for a variety of reasons. Most feature districts tied to specific Archons that fall under the patron god's domains.

History

At the end of the Dawn Age, the Cities of Heaven were forever changed by the removal of the gods from the face of the Material Plane. While their authority remained strong as large populations centers and gathering sites for religious cults, there was now the possibility of outlying regions breaking free of their control. This, combined with the traditional strife between the cities that was left behind from the Dawn Age, has ensured that there is always some source of conflict in Norstir throughout history.

Territories

Each City of Heaven controls a central city that was once the personal home of a god. The surrounding areas are often directly controlled by the cities as well, and may have been part of the patron god's domain back in the Dawn Age. Regions of Norstir not under the influence of a City of Heaven are often seen as apostates by the denizens of the cities.

Religion

The core Armean Pantheon is the recognized religion of the Cities of Heaven, with each city giving itself entirely to the interests of one god. This is often discordant, and has been the cause of untold wars and strife down the ages.
