Ranedus Geographic Location in Aquila Palaxis | World Anvil

Ranedus (Rah-neh-duhs)

The home of synthkind in Aquila Palaxis.
Synths were created to be an answer to the abundance of power, but a dwindling of other natural resources, to be a workforce that can operate without needing much more than a supply of energy.
Therogen, known more popularly as "protogen", were, as it's said, the Imperatrix's idea, though she has never given a reason for their creation.
There also exists a fair population of anthropoid reptilians known simply as Ranedians, believed to be among the only native fauna aside from a few species of hopping creatures out in the wilds.

The Imperatrix and Her Peers

Sitting as the best among the best is the mysterious Imperatrix Raneda, and under her is a skilled array of counts, each heading one of the the handful of cities remaining on the surface of Ranedus.

Serfdom

Though it's not something that the UGF would condone, synthkind begin their lives in servitude, and while their first handful of payouts are denied, their needs are to be taken care of by those who employ them, with those who do not care for them being penalized, and the synthetic is withdrawn from their care, to be relocated to a suitable employer. The idea is that unless a synthetic is commissioned, this servitude is to help pay off production costs. Commissioned synthetics, however, are given their freedoms right out of the gate, though are expected to settle reasonably quickly into the role the commissioner set.

Population Control

Procreation is limited by a worldwide suppression field which prohibits select protein chains, necessary for the formation of a fetus, to form. Periodically, this field is turned down, allowing a handful of newborn to be created, ensuring that native Ranedians will continue on. Presumably the Geneforges have some manner of shielding against this field, as the protogen produced within have no issue forming within their artificial wombs.

Notable Cities

Prodigal

Widely regarded as the capital of the world, at least according to locals, this city-state has been established and is governed by the small bio-engineering firm, Protocorp. Dotted throughout its area are countless gene-crafting buildings, filled to the brim with nutrient-rich grow-tanks. At the very heart of the city sits what's known as the Prime Gene-Craft Facility- Geneforge Prime- where the first protogen gene-templates and cybernetic implantations were found, and it's often noted that these records are painstakingly detailed, such that replicating their results is practically child's play. It's not entirely known who or what created the facility, as Protocorp settled in and claimed the facility much later than its initial construction.
Population: 4,677
Corporate Entities
Protocorp: The bio-engineering and cybernetics firm responsible for the production of the so-called protogen, originally intended as a workforce with little to no upkeep required. Their plans didn't come to fruition, but the protogens still were a reliable force, though were quickly outshone by Kova Tech's Ranedian Synth. Despite being less efficient, and 'inferior', the protogen managed to carve a certain niche in the market, catering to folk who are wary of purely artificial help, though the protogen's only marginally lower price point, as well, definitely helped.

New Rebus

A small city-state formed of the few survivors of Nidum.

Corporate Entities
Kova Technologies: A robotics manufacturer and leading research firm whose crowning achievement is the Ranedian synth, designed as a workforce to alleviate pressures on the world's already strained resources.
Notable Establishment
Murmus Port Authority: The last functioning spaceport on Ranedus' surface, this Synth-run establishment continues strong despite the hardships faced by Ranedians day to day.

Nidum

Once a prosperous hub of science and research, this crumbling ruin is all that remains, with the debris being regularly picked through by scavvers and treasure hunters alike. Rumor has it that the HQ of Repuismus exists within this husk of a city.
