Dreikusuri Species in Aquila Palaxis | World Anvil

Dreikusuri

Led first by the great mother, Socellia Secundas, the dreikusuri set forth upon the cathedralship known as "Matris Cubiculi", filled to the brim with bartered Ranedian genetics technology. With the encroachment of the Sirahmaot(known otherwise as the Necrolords) from the fringe, the Matris Cubiculi fled out of the Drakonis sector, disappearing off sensors somewhere in the neighboring regions of Tagmur.
Dreikusuri, like the Drekiri, are natively viviparous, but environmental conditions can trigger oviviviparous, and even straight up oviparous gestation. Many of the people aboard the Matris Cubiculum are under mild duress, and have fallen into oviparous. Gestation takes 4-6 months to complete.

Physical Description

Largely resembling their forebears, the dreikusuri bear markedly more angular faces, and a generally leaner, tighter physique, as most 'suri have trained and honed themselves prior to their Ascendance into being what they are now.

Society and Alignment

Being cloistered on ships, and being on the run, they have adopted some peculiar traditions, including the 'pendulum kiss'- where engineers attempt to kiss a sledgehammer being swung; earning many of them a nickname of "Flat-Face"- hosting feasts upon the return of scouting parties, and having a newly-Ascended eat vacuum-dried jerky.
The dreikusuri society, small though it might be, is organized into a caste system, with the Prophet of Yokham standing atop, guiding the flock according to the virtues of The Adept, tempered by the teachings of the Six in general. Beneath the Prophet, as paragons of mental, physical, and spiritual preparation, is the Ascendants, those that have undergone the procedure, elevating them from drekiri, to dreikusuri. Lowest on the proverbial totem, though by no means seen as dregs, are the Aspirants, those who are still on their journey of preparation and enlightenment.
  • Prophet: Held currently by Socellia Secunda, whose genetics research led to the creation of the dreikusuri, as a people.
  • Ascendants: Beloved children of Yokham that have grown from drekiri Aspirant to a dreikusuri proper.
  • Scientists: Backbone of the Scout Fleets. Geneticists also double as lesser priests of Yokham. They also tend to run hydroponics and carniculture vats, providing ship with edibles.
  • Engineers: Those who keep the machinery of the ship alive. Aside from peculiar initiation rituals (which vary from ship to ship), you'd more often find them covered from muzzle to tail in grease, instead of scented oils. Tend to have good drone operation skills for maintaining dangerous areas.
  • SECTeams: Pretty much the closest thing 'Suri have to soldiers. They are the military wing of scout fleets and security on the motherships.
  • Internal Maintenance: Doctors, therapists and so on. People, who help 'Suri society to somewhat function, at least, instead of falling apart.
  • Aspirants: The drekiri that are on a journey of improvement, preparation, and enlightenment, destined to one day become Ascendants.

Relations

Despite being a people striving for 'perfection' they are surprisingly genial to other races, and in conversation, they will absolutely make note of a race's natural adaptations, marveling over how it came to be. This, of course, does create a sort of intense dynamic, where people find their analyses a little creepy, and somewhat invasive.

Adventurers

Breakaways from Socellia's flock are rare, but those that are sent away on long-term missions are slightly more common, though still uncommon.

Ability Adjustments: +2 Str, +2 Cha, -2 Wis
Hit Points: 6
Size and Type: Dreikusuri are Medium humanoids with the draconic subtype.
Engineered Fortitude: Being viewed as the pinnacle of gene-engineering, the dreikusuri, they emerge from their Ascendance with greatly enhanced resistances, and a series of redundant organ systems, alongside brand new organs. This grants them a +2 on Fortitude saves to resist poisons, diseases, to withstand harsh climates, and even to resist against the element of their dracospine gland.
Dracospine Gland: As a replacement for the "breath gland" in drekiri, this advanced organ produces hollow, chambered spines that, upon impact with a solid surface, the sphincters that make up the chamber walls open up, allowing the chemicals housed within to mix together to produce various 'elemental' effects. A dreikusuri can use as many as 1 + their Constitution modifier per day.
The damage done by these spines is equivalent to a pistol of appropriate level. 1st: 1d4, 6th: 2d4, 9th: 3d4, 12th: 4d4, 14th: 5d4, 17th: 8d4, and 20th: 10d4.

Draconic Vision: Dreikusuri, being derived from drekiri genetics, gain darkvision with a range of 60 feet and low-light vision, meaning they can see in dim light as if it were normal light.
Stalwart and Cultured: Being of a regal society, even as splintered as they are from the core society, combined with an inherent imposition due to their apparent draconic ancestry, dreikusuri gain a +2 to Intimidate and Culture checks.
