The Hells Above
The Hells Above is a Lawful Evil realm, parallel to Apa Axas. It acts as the home of the Infernal Devils, and acts as an alternate version to The Nine Hells. In some stories, the Hells Above take the form of a huge Albatross that seeks to strike Apa Axas from above. It is locked in eternal combat with The Abyss Below.
Geography
The Hells Above are a rising expanse of nine layers, with each layer torturing its denizens in unique ways, depending on their percieved sins. The layers are as follows:
- Simil Crulenn, the False Mantle, ruled by Cicatrice, the Un.
- Kellweh Duluun, the Trench of Endless Need, ruled by Skala.
- Niwel Screeith, The Vomit Stones, ruled by Dunwol, Eater of Vomit.
- Rikus Daylr, The City of Rikus, ruled by Grand Arbiter Felinon.
- Fune Dala, The Burning Battlefield, ruled by Skarsis Bliss.
- Kalan Gorough, The Throne of Shackles, ruled by Holon, the Protected.
- Feelna Xivith, The Ebon Iron, ruled by Lord Higgige, the Barbed Fist.
- Palla Wharthar, The Mirror World, ruled by Mnemic, The Reflecting God.
- Tikun, The Top, ruled by Paranon.
History
The realm known as The Hells Above was created when the newly-formed Channus was birthed from two beings; the Mad Gnome Annus and the Simic Hybrid Chulad seized the power of the Archduchess Zariel at the same time, forming the new Travesty of Juxtaposition. After his birth, Channus took control of Avernus, the first of The Nine Hells and created The Burning Glacier. This new realm tore through the walls of reality, and nearly destroyed much of Apa Axas and the Nine Hells.
While the initial burst was halted by Surm Tutdrug, it caused a great schism amongst the Devils. Many of the Devils present during this battle defected to various Travesties; most notably Thija, Kal Crist, Gutrot, Shubb'Ki and Channus. Worse still, the Infernal energies that the Burning Glacier brought with it caused a vaccuum on Apa Axas; a vaccuum that was filled with the coalescence of a new realm; the Hells Above.
The Devils of the Nine Hells swore revenge on the defectors of the Hells Above, and, after decades of rebuilding their forces, declared war on the Travesties, in a conflict known as The Hellwars. This conflict lasted over a century, and resulted in Apa Axas falling completely under the sway of the Devils of the Hells Above. Eventually, while the Arch Tsars of the Hells Above were locked in conflict with The Vida Quda, an unlikely alliance of Channus, Sangroke Bliss and Zemer Epsh created The Abyss Below to act as a counteragent to the Hells Above. The two realms locked to each other in eternal combat, with The Lacuna acting as a perpetual mediator.
