Channus

The Combined Kings, the Hybrid Two-Now-One, the Mongrel Beast of Beasts, the Simic Gnome and the Hypocrite Iudex (a.k.a. Annuias Chulan)

Channus, sometimes known as the Combined Kings, the Hybrid Two-Now-One, the Mongrel Beast of Beasts, the Simic Gnome and the Hypocrite Iudex, is the Travesty representing juxtaposition, mental anguish and jealousy. He is one of the more widely worshipped Travesties, despite his innate chaotic nature, although this is in line with his contradictory doctrine.   Unlike many of his kin, Channus is actually the combination of two beings: the mad Gnome Annus and the monstrous Simic Hybrid called Chulad. While the particulars of their fusion is up for debate, it is known that it involves the first layer of The Nine Hells, Avernus, and it led to the creation of his own realm, known as The Burning Glacier.   Known amongst his followers as The Combined Kings, Channus is said to be a manifestation of both The Abyss and The Nine Hells, a contradiction that leads to the Travesty being at constant war with himself. He has been known to make Pacts with Warlocks, leading to the creation of Fiend Warlocks.

Divine Domains

While Channus's main domains are contradiction, absent mindedness and jealousy, he is also considered to oversee Madness, Depression, Hysteria, Drugs, Fiends, Metal and Sharks.

Artifacts

Channus has several artifacts, many of which he bestows on mortals, before snatching them away again after a few uses. Examples include:
  • Well of Many Worlds, a cloth that allows the user to create a two-way portal on surfaces on which the Well is draped.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like many of the other Beacons and Travesties, Channus can take many forms, depending on who he is interacting with.   To The High Elven Pantheon, he is known as Annuias Chulan, and takes the form of a short Elven man with tentacles for a beard

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The being known as Channus is actually an amalgamation of two beings; a gnome named Annus and a Simic Hybrid named Chulad. Together, they were present at the Fall of Elturel and seized the power of the Arch-Duchess Zariel at the same time, fusing them into a singular hideous being. This thing screamed into the void at its own existence, its horrified thoughts only of one word, their names, their very identities fused inexorably together: Channus.   In the few moments Channus controlled Avernus, he had managed to make and maintain a pocket realm between Avernus and a passing reality, known as Apa Axas. However, due to the movement of Apa Axas, the threads of this newly woven dimension were caught between The Abyss as well. This opened up a back door into the Blood War, and the realm was soon saturated with warring fiends, while Channus revelled in the Pandemonium. His seat of Avernus was quickly overthrown, but Channus no longer cared, his new realm, dubbed The Burning Glacier or The Din, was all he wished for; chaos and violence on an unprecedented scale.   Channus himself is rarely referred to in the historical records of Apa Axas, leading some to believe that he was not originally present in the pantheon until an alteration in the timeline, and had instead been transplanted into the timeline through some strange metaphysical process, almost the exact opposite of The New Gods being erased from time by the God Severment. Whether this is the case is uncertain, but what is certain is that Channus is here now, and he is ready to spread chaos wherever his presence is felt.

Social

Religious Views

Channus is at the centre of a holy war between three main cults, reflecting his inner turmoil. The first of these is the The Brainfeast Sect, who believe that Chulad is the true avatar of Channus, and should be worshipped by the sacrifice of Elves and the devouring of their brains. The second is The Way of Annus, who believe that Annus is the dominant personality within Channus, and wishes for peace and love amongst his subjects. Lastly is The Combined Kingdom, , who believe that they must both be worshipped in equal measure, resulting in strange behaviours for its followers, such as saving a village only to burn it to the ground. These three churches reflect Channus himself, as they seem to be constantly arguing amongst themselves, but excel at working in tandem for the hint of increased power.
