Dor Vonul

Dor Vonul was founded by dwarves, long before the foundation of the kingdoms. For most of its history, the city has housed exclusively, or a majority of dwarves. However, in 696, a violent coup by an ambitious group of humans overthrew the ruler. Many lost their lives, and it took several years for peace to return to the city, albeit an uneasy one. Now, humans outnumber the dwarves in Dor Vonul. However, much of the city's power resides in the craftsman guilds, which are mostly controlled by the dwarf clans.   This balance of power is the only thing keeping the clan leaders and human viscount from each others' throats, as they know any violence would quickly escalate into full scale civil war in the city. Thus, while tensions remain high in the city, and outsiders are generally viewed with distrust by both sides, lest they interfere with the delicate peace.

Demographics

Until recently, Dor Vonul was home to a majority of dwarves, with humans steadily increasing since the Kingdom of Avalyra was founded. As their numbers rose, so did racial tensions, culminating in the events of 696. Now, humans have a slight majority of population over dwarves. A handful of peoples of other races can also be found in the mountain city.

Industry & Trade

While Dor Vonul's iron production is far outshone by that of its northern neighbour, Hondarahl, it makes up for that with prodigious gold and silver mining operations. The vast majority of the kingdom's jewellery is either crafted in the city, or the materials originate from Dor Vonul. Much of the gold and silver used in Avalyran currency is also produced here.

Guilds and Factions

Crime is rife in Dor Vonul, fuelled by the racial friction. The thieves' guls is a poorly kept secret, and employs individuals from throughout the city from all walks of life, uniting them under the simple goal of profit. Many suspect that the shadowy figure in charge of the guild has influence over Devana Gilmyn and the dwarf clan leaders. What is certain, however, is that many of the city watch are on the guild's payroll.   The dwarves of Dor Vonul are organised into clans, each one in charge of a different industry. The two largest clans, run by Thuldrum Silverbraid and Ammund Brightshaper respectively, run the silver and gold mines in the city.
