The Aistanian Crown

“And they would gather for the Assembly of the Kings to keep the peace between the species. The First Kings ruled with a firm and a loving hand. Irath looked upon them and was filled with pride of their decision, and she gave each of the Kings a crown, to remind them of their duty to their species, and to symbolise their wisdom and leadership.”
— Book of Irath, The Protectors
The Aistanian crown is the oldest Dynbodaul crown that exists. It is believed to originate from the very first appointed king of the Dynbodauls and created by the hands of Irath. After centuries, it has only gotten more elaborate in its design and precious stones. Although there are rumours, this is just a replica of the original crown, it is still invaluable for the royal family in Aistana, and has created a lot of cultural dispute between several countries, which all think it belongs to them.

History

The Legend Behind the Crown

The crown is part of the legend of the first Breinex. After the six species were made, they had to figure out a way to coexist. It was then they created the Assembly of the Kings, where each species had their own king. To commemorate their effort to maintain peace and balance between the species, Irath gifted each of the kings a crown.

The locations of the other five legendary crowns are currently unknown. But each species’ crown was made by the material that matched their personality.

The Unknown Period

There is an unknown period from the creation of the crown to the next past record of the crown. This unknown period lasts for a very long time until it is once again mentioned in the Book of Irath. At this time, other records exist as well. It is during the divide of the Dynbodaul realm between Manaes' two daughters, some time after the First War. This is also the first cultural conflict that happens between the Kingdom of Aistana and Estain, where the dispute was over who should get the crown. It was agreed upon that Queen Aistana was the oldest, and therefore she should be given the crown. If you ask any Estainian today, they would tell it was theft and the crown originally belongs to Estain.

It is believed that the crown got its first gems added to it around this time, but it was still a simple circlet of gold. Over time, the stems of wheat have disappeared. It’s believed that the crown got polished to lose its crude form, and since gem-cutting came into the picture around this time, it is likely that it had already happened here.

1196 BGD to 1348 BGD

In 1196, the Church of Irath came officially into existence. And records about the crown slowly came again in the Book of Irath. Only mentioned briefly, we know the dispute over the ownership once again occurred, and Aistana and Estain were almost on the verge of war. The newly founded Church of Irath managed to prevent the war before it became a reality, and they only listened because the members of the church at the time were previously the miracle-makers, the Illendriths.

Centuries after the founding of the Church of Irath, the crown is once again mentioned in relation to the building of Dinurb O Lusgafn's. In celebration of finishing the cathedral, it was decided by the church members to alleviate the crown with more details. They added the large amber stone in the middle and created a six pointed Glux out of gold to surround it. On each ray, there’s an enamelled figure of each species, to commemorate the crown being one of the originals. The amber is a symbol of a frozen ray of the Glux, similar to thee Emberstones tradition today.

The Flood

It was believed that the crown was lost in the Flood during the The First Dymórleshra War, but somehow it had miraculously survived the chaos. There are different theories to this. One is that there was made a replica of the original crown, and the original crown is still lost. Others believed it was Irath who had saved it, and some think a wise queen had brought the crown with her.

Some jewels went missing around this time. And some scholars believe in order to pay for all the damage that the flood had done, the queen had to sell some jewels to pay for the extensive reparation for all the settlements. This period is considered being a darker part of history. Somehow, the jewels on the Estainian crown look very similar to the ones on Aistana’s. And there is a strong suspicion they bought the jewels to heighten their position, since Estain has been wanting the original crown from the beginning.

348-358 AGD

Agia did not seem to face many problems this decade, and art in general seemed to bloom. It was during this decade that King Fortín felt the crown lacked a certain elegance, and which king would not want more jewels, gold, and pearls added to their crown. He then commissioned that the crown should 12 stems which formed the Flowers of Light at the top, where 6 were to be taller than the ones in between. Besides the new design, he also commissioned additional jewels for the upper part, as well as those that were lost after the flood from the finest lapidarist in Cerreg. He even managed getting his hands on a very rare birthing pearl from a Môrwen, believed to be the very one Urgan the Usurper stole several millennia ago.

Today, the crown is only used during coronations, in fear it might break. But it still holds power over the royal family, who firmly believes it is the original crown. And as the old saying goes, faith makes it real.
