Vakkal

(a.k.a. Vahalus)

Vakkal was a tribal chief from Záal in northwestern Adynía during late bronze age. At the time, the dwarven empire of Zameltonía on the Meldon Plain was experiencing a major decline, and its kings often employed mercenaries from Záal, Gráhúlysía and Núrak to fight their enemies and crush provincial uprisings. One such mercenary was Jaró, Vakkal's younger brother, who lead a band of warriors to help high-king Tartúzes defeat rebels in southern Zameltonía. After returning victorious to Tartúzes to receive their payment, the king betrayed Jaró and his men and had them executed.
When Vakkal heard the news, he gathered his men, invaded the city of Irtúlan and slayed Tartúzes, after which they went on rampage throughout the empire. Some say that Vakkal died of exhaustion, having vowed to neither eat nor sleep until the empire was destroyed, others that he fell in battle, while in Seylis it's said that he eventually returned home to Záal, never to be seen again.
Whatever became of him, Vakkal vanished from history as suddenly as he appeared, but his actions had long-lasting consequences; his rampage weakened Zameltonía greatly, and it was soon overrun by other záali or gráhúlysian tribes, marking the end of Adynían bronze age. Stories of Vakkal (now known as Vahalus) still survive on the Meldon Plain, and up until the fall of the Paþarían Empire the záali descendants on the plain were known as vakkals, and the province around the river Kir as Vahalissía.
