Maccion

This small hamlet is split down the middle with a quiet river. Founded recently in the grand scheme of things, it has come a long way.   Many people seek out Maccion as it is positioned very well for travelers, and is fairly hospitable. It also has access to many bountiful resources nearby.   Recently, a Demoarchos was selected to officially manage this hamlet with the mission of growing it size and defenses.   With the frontier in the backyard of this small town being a sprawling wilderness, this is where our story begins.

The Pan Flute 5

The Pan Flute 5 is a group of adventurers who, through circumstance found themselves bonded together to fight a common enemy. Where they all met was in Maccion at the Imperfect Pan Flute Inn. Since that time, this group of 'heroes' tied themselves directly to the fate of this hamlet. Maccion was a small frontier hamlet, that while making strides towards growth found itself in the center of a major conflict.   After the conflict, the Pan Flute 5 decided to call this their home base by building their own inn. This stronghold would work as a hub of activity for the group. Their roots would run deep here as well from all of the relationships that they forged in this town.

Battle of Maccion

The Battle of Maccion was a battle between the armies of Stratos and the Pan Flute 5 against a hobgoblin army. Instigated by the Jester, this army chose to take control of the Red Fort as a base of operations to strike deeper into Stratos. While the bulk of the fighting happened near the Red Fort, as led by the current Demoarchos, there was a rear guard who kept Maccion safe.   The rear guard was the Pan Flute 5 and other allies (Ava, Onduth and other members of the community). They were able to form a bottle neck in the area to the northeast of the city and construct defensive palisades in an effort to repulse the invaders. The group was able to convince Onduth to create ballistae to help defend as well.   The battle consisted of a hobgoblin army that comprised of goblins and hobgoblins. After their leader became far too distracted to guide the troops, it became a chaotic battle. With the army sending waves and waves against the palisade, the bodies pilled up. Eventually, with the death of the commanding officer , the rest of the army broke and ran. After the battle, Maccion saw many changes. After clearing these enemies, the government of Stratos saw fit to fund a formal road through the mountains the plains. This infrastructure would promote direct trade through the mountains, which caused an influx of trade and immigration to the area. Within the year of the battle, Maccion's population doubled. Had it not been for Demoarchos Kepheus strong leadership, Maccion could have been fraught with growing pains from resource management to criminal activity.

The Northern Road

After the Battle of Maccion, Maccion became more than just a near instant historical landmark. It was a signal to many nationals of Absalon of the strength of the Aetolian League and their ability to maintain security in their region. This led to the public works government funded construction of the Northern Road. The Northern Road allowed for access to the nations to the north, specifically the Plainsmen's Tribes and Noupend. Once completed, this road would work as a pathway through the Ricmod Mountains and create many trade opportunities.   At this point, Maccion saw an exponential growth. Starting with a small close knit population of about 800, it has grown to over 4,000. A mix of workers from the road, hired hands, oligarchs, guildsmen, and politicians have settled there all looking for a piece of this historical growth. With the current Demoarchos Kepheus, he was able to lead and manage this influx. This helped bolster the reputation of Maccion's ability to scale upwards while still maintaining order and decency.   At the beginning of the boom, Maccion flew under the radar as a city that welcomed all belief systems, specifically the Aetolian pantheon. It also helped that the wife of the Demoarchos was an elf with known arcane ties, which in turn helped with lessening any reporting of magically inclined individuals. However, with the increased presence of the Church of Pelor, many of older customs and cultures are starting to fade into the past.   After the rise of Maccion, current Demoarchos, Kepheus, was called back to Ithaca.  In his place is 2nd Commandant Alcaeus Phocas, acting Demoarchos.
