The Soviet Union

The Soviet Union, is a state under the Leadership of Vladimir Lenin.

History:

After the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks were able to keep up the advance’s in the early years of the civil war. The Ice March was stopped and crushed, leading to capture and destruction of the Volunteer Army. The Czech Legion never revolted, and the Siberian railroad and the imperial treasury remained firmly in their control. The blow to the moral of the White's after these events were fatal, and the Bolsheviks gained the holdings in the Caucasus Central Asia and Finland after their Civil War which the reds there defeated White Forces.

By December 1918, Bolsheviks, emerging victorious against the Whites quickly and focused their attention to their interventions in their former eastern lands like Ukraine and the Baltic States.

Polish Soviet War:

The only, territories, left were what was now Poland, the Baltic States and Ukraine that were falling to Soviet advancements.

The Polish, with the fears of growing Soviet Dominance, immediately declared war and thus starting the Polish-Soviet War in January 1919. In March 1919, the Bolsheviks routed Ukrainian forces, leading to its collapse. The Soviets, having much more freed up manpower including, bringing thousands of captured equipment from the defeated White Army, crushed them. The offensive was brutal against the remaining Poles as the country was defeated by July 1919.

However, the high resistance dismayed many to create a Polish SSR, so in response to these concerns, Trotsky proposed, setting up a satellite state, to "Sovietize the region to later integrate into the union to become a loyal SSR". Lenin approved and in that month, the Soviet's set up The Polish Socialist Republic lead by close ally Julian Marchlewski.

Post-Civil War:

The Soviet’s finally at peace by July 1919, they began to rebuild, including starting to interfere in the affairs of Europe. While Germany was a one of their priorities, The Hungarian Soviet Republic that was engaged in all front's was barely holding on, and was seen as more important.

So, Lenin decided to focus on, The Hungarian Soviet Republic to help them win against Romania and fight off the Entente forces in Yugoslavia. He also gave arms to Czech communist’s, to overthrow the Czechoslovakian government to both link up the two states and weaken The Polish Liberation Army in the progress.

Factionalism within the party, exhaustion from war, ruled out any possibility of direct intervention from Lenin, despite calls from figures like Trotsky and Taushev. The Soviet's War Communism Economy also was increasing growing criticized for its unstable and chaotic nature, by figures like Nikolai Bukharin, Stalin, Alexandra and Taushev. The NEP policy created and pushed by Nikolai Bukharin, that has great support within the country, especially the peasants, that call's for a mixed economy by allowing limited private enterprise. The NEP would lift many of the restrictions on peasants owning and selling land, business owners being able to own small industry while the state hold's a monopoly on major industries.

Bulgaria sensing weakness of Romania vulnerable situation snd hoping to regain territory, came to a deal with Moscow, they offered to save The Hungarian Soviet Republic on two conditions. To subject Romania under Bulgarian rule and take all their lands lost in the Great War. Lenin, eventually, accepted, able to get back Moldova in the negotiation. Lenin's hope for revolution in both Romania Bulgaria didn't go away, however, hoping this would be a temporary comprise to crush Bulgaria and later Yugoslavia.

German Civil War:

By March 1920, a German Civil War broke out following the Kapp Pustch, the Soviet’s backed the Communist’s lead by Paul Levi and The German Soviet Republic in East Germany. The Soviet's continued to arm the German's and hoped to overthrow what Lenin deemed, "The Remnants Of German Reactionaries".

On May 2 in 1921, Czechoslovakia fell to Communist Revolution under rising star Klement Gottwald thanks to increasing funding by the Soviet's.

Since now, Czechoslovakia and Hungary were both communist, they held a ceasefire and calling for Soviets to mediate their territorial disputes. Lenin, who was worried about ethic tension’s between the Czechs, Slovaks and Hungarian’s travelled to Prague to support the idea of a Czechoslovakian state. He did this by persuading Béla Kun to withdraw from Slovakia and end the war. He, in return, promised Bela the Hungarian lands under Yugoslavia rule, if war broke out in the Balkan's.

Fearing communism spreading, The German Empire marched into Austria in October 1921 under the guise of "stopping" a communist revolution, and then held a referendum to join Germany and was, which was approved, annexing the country.

The London Telegram:

The Franco-British Union, then sent the “Threat” telegram, in it, they pledge if The German Empire falls to The German Soviet Republic all the countries in Europe will all unite to declare war on the 'Bolshevik Plague'. Lenin fearful, knowing a full war couldn't be handled with the fragile state of the Soviet Economy, tried to inform the German Soviet Republic to be more “defensive” in their attack's, with nearly all of his request’s being denied.

In 1922, with no progress, The German Civil War entered into a ceasefire, both countries were too devested by the War to the fires of civil war going.

The dust has settled, but tension is still high. However, every nation is devastated, either from years of war in WW1 or the chaos in the aftermath. However, they have a strong foot in Europe, mostly thanks to timing and luck.

War, is out of the question!, at least for now. The Soviet’s need to rebuild and think of a long term plan.

Inter Politics:

With Leinin’s health, many factions have emerged within the party, many with the own agenda wishing to shape the Union after his death.

Trosktyists:

While they lean towards some decentralization of governance, however, emphasize the importance of a vanguard to remain in total control.

Stalinists:

Led by Joseph Stalin that advocate a “Socialism in One Country” foreign policy that calls for the nation to start focusing on domestic affairs to secure communism fully.
