19th of Lenzin

19th of Lenzin

by Arlanval Rudra

(Today's entry looks rushed and the penmanship much less tidy than usual)
Mind is racing. Need to get all of this out and onto the page. Forgive my quick scrawling.

We arrived at the Rasp town, a town on a small cliff facing the ocean. Used to be some kind of town with stone structures. All seems worn down and old. Not made by the Rasps but they moved in and patched things with makeshift debris or covered it with furs or hides. Guards out front prevented entry until Harper provided them a gold coin. We entered and Harper, Chael, and I spoke with Dragon Sill who ultimately agreed to speak with the loggers to negotiate a deal in a couple of days.

We left the building, and we found that Rux had left the cart. She drew quite a bit of attention. Harper drew the Rasps' attention with a song and I walked the clearly uncomfortable Rux back to the cart. Chael and I spoke with a Rasp that was making bedroom eyes at Rux earlier and managed to talk him into selling them a blue manabark which I bought for 300 gold. Glad to have that, and I'll need to bring that back to the Glimmering Scale.

Later that night Chael gave out cookies which we all ate. Chael insisted I play Harper the song I remember, and I did. Harper unfortunately didn't know anything about it, or didn't seem to know. However, he mentioned that he might be able to find something in the family archives later. I discussed a bit with them about my unknown past. Harper requested that the two of us try playing at the same time to see if I could piece anything else together.

However, during the time playing Harper began to act strangely. Almost as if he was possessed or cursed. He started seeing strange things like Mara growing larger which wasn't actually happening. I was concerned and tried to reach out to help him.

It was around this time that it started.

I began to see things myself, seeing red scales growing on my arms. I frantically tried to pry them off as they were covering me but nothing worked. Harper, in a moment of clarity, tried to help me, but as I turned to explain what was going on I saw myself... breathe out a blast of fire, incinerating him to dust. In a panic I looked around at everyone else and warned them not to come close to me and to get away, but soon my vision shifted again.

Before I knew it I was back in Shimmerlake, just as I remembered it. I ran to try to find the old house but it was just a heap of ashes, having been completely burned to the ground. I had to have known what to expect, but I was just in shock. I just
fell to my knees. There was nothing I could do. Then, my vision shifted again.

This time I found myself somewhere I didn't recognize. A nice, warm home. I was kneeling on a plush rug. Sun faintly coming in to a couch of sorts. With wooden walls and filled with random trinkets and items. While I was trying to gain my bearings I heard it. The song. Being hummed from someone behind a door. I didn't recognize the voice, but I would know that song from anywhere. I rushed over and try to run into the door, but after stepping through I wound up on the other side of the room. I kept running over to try to throw open the door and rush through, every time returning to the opposite end of the room back where I began. In what felt like an eternity, and an unknown number of futile attempts later, I felt exhausted, and slammed into the door as I was attempting to open it one last time. And then I woke up.

It looked like everyone else was experiencing something similar, or had. Harper and Velvet. Ashton, who was making motion like he was swinging a sword. Mara too who apparently now has very pointed teeth, like a beast, and her ruined eye now opens with a purple glow. I woke the others out of their presumptive nightmares, although when I got to Velvet her flower seemed to attack whenever I tried, so I had to leave her. Mara too, as she clearly did not want to be awoken. Ashton I was able to wake up, but he grabbed me and started yelling something about how it's "not their fault" as he was awakening. It definitely sounds like whatever happened he was going through some things too.

Rux and Chael were inside the cart, and I was able to wake the two of them up. Oddly, Chael didn't seem upset with whatever he experienced, unlike the rest of us. Rux however seemed most distressed, so Chael and I attempted to comfort her.

Eventually Mara and Velvet broke out of it, having similar experiences. Around that time we heard something out in the woods. Chael and Rux had left for a period but came back after talking briefly. Chael mentioned that everything was okay but I noticed he kept his eye on me, staring at me for a while. Chael seemed tense and inquired with me about my relationship with Eamon, saying that as I had described him as being my "ward" its typical description would mean I was his prisoner. It's kind of hard to disagree, so I told Chael he's not exactly wrong. But then Chael seemed to insinuate that Eamon was using Rux in some way, and describe how he handed me the book of monster parts and crafting we were given. Chael left after.

I didn't quite understand what he meant, but the insinuation that Eamon was harming Rux in some way caused my blood to boil. I took the book and researched everything regarding dragons. Blood, scales, anything. It was a lot to take in. I found that dragon scales are a good crafting material and their blood is magical by nature and used in enchantments. The glands in their throats are useful in crafting. The book covered what each of them can be used for. The uses tended to have a leaning more towards Chromatic dragons and the use of their remains.

But how? How was he doing this to Rux? And why? Is that why he kept her as his pet? As a pool of resources to be exploited as he needed? I need to find out more about this.
