24th of Lenzin

24th of Lenzin

by Arlanval Rudra

Harper requested assistance in getting in touch with his sister so he, Mara, and I headed to the Frowning Boar relatively early in the morning.

We entered the Frowning Boar and the place was packed. After a bit of chatting amongst the group we decided to try to go up to the stage to play some music. Ultimately, I had hoped, that we would be able to cause enough of a distraction if we played well that it would allow Harper to sneak in and talk with his sister. And so, Mara, Velvet, and I went on stage. I felt like I started us off pretty well, and Velvet, while not as great and likely a bit rusty, still did decently well on her lute. Then... Mara and her bagpipes. I don't know what she was trying to do, but she just let out a cacophonous noise, loud enough to wake the dead. It effectively disrupted the entire area, and we were quickly shuttled off of the stage. I've never been more mortified.

Although, silver lining, because the raucous noise got Harper a chance to, while disguised, sneak up and chat with Chant. It seems like there is a lot of tension between them as she said she's now having to get married due to Harper's leaving. Eventually she left to return to speak with her betrothed, the Stagdew son who I don't recall the name of right now. He seems to be a paladin, and spoke briefly with Chael who seemed to be making the rounds talking with folks. It was then that I spoke with Harper. He needed to speak with his mother. He needed to get some kind of closure here. Harper agreed.

Oddly enough around this time, Mara, who had been drinking heavily, let out a loud belch and suddenly returned back to her normal form. She seemed perfectly fine, but seemed just as confused as the rest of us.

A little while passed and eventually there was a lot of clamorous noise coming from upstairs, as well as screams. Harper noted that came from his sister. Harper and I tried to rush upstairs but a pair of guards barred the way. It was around that time that we heard the sound of shattering glass. Mara, Velvet, and everyone else started rushing outside only to find a group of cloaked figures attempting to carry off three women, one of whom was Harper's younger sister Tambourine.

Later still there was a large shriek from upstairs. Harper noted it was his sister, so we leapt into action, but we were barred from going upstairs by the guards. However, Mara and Velvet and everyone else started rushing outside after the sound of glass being shattered, so we followed in pursuit to find cloaked figures attempting to carry off three women.

We fought the kidnappers down into the sewers, and had to fight a Gelatinous Cube to make our way to the captives. We fought and defeated the Cube and rescued Tambourine. The kidnappers fought back harshly, and were of significant trouble to Ashton and Velvet, but we were ultimately able to fend them off. One of them was killed in the skirmish, but we were able to capture two of them, one of them being knocked out by me and the other by Harper.

In the back room we met up with the other two kidnapped, Tealrissa Stagdew and Jeanie Taybot. We undid their bindings and helped them up, and Tealrissa called out intending to kill the incapacitated kidnapper. Thankfully, Chael and I were able to stop her and dissuaded her from acting rashly by telling her that we would be able to question them to find out about what they were doing and why they were trying to kidnap them. With so much security and two big name houses, it would be sheer idiocy to try to kidnap these women for no reason.

As we left the sewer with the women and captives in tow we met up with Chant's betrothed, the son of Duke Stagdew, and a cleric named Nicodemus who Chael was chatting with earlier, who were just about to go down in after us as we came back out. They appreciated our efforts and thanked us, and it was agreed that the Stagdews would take one captive to interrogate, and the Bowens the other.

As we re-entered the inn, Harper talked with his father briefly, and ultimately went to go upstairs to finally talk with his mother. I offered him my assistance but Harper declined, calling me a good friend for the offer. His talks seemed to go okay when next he came down to talk about them. The group decided to wait for a while, with Mara, Velvet, and Chael heading outside the inn. Ashton and I stayed behind at a table in the inn.

After a short while, Harper came back downstairs after having spoken with his mother, and Velvet called out for us to head back down into the sewers. We wanted to make sure that was all that remained of the group. We headed down and headed towards the room opposite the one we had went into before to rescue the captives. This seemed to be locked by some kind of strange puzzle relating to the symbol of Pelor. Once we set the symbol the correct way it opened a path and it headed further into a room with a... drunk necromancer and his two companions. We quickly dispatched them although took a bit of hurting in the process.

We left the room with the Necromancer and found a room where we were attacked by a giant bug. We quickly dispatched it. There wasn't anything else in the room so we left the way we came.

We headed back down to the room where we found the kidnapped women. There was an exit to the south but it ultimately led out into the greater sewers. Likely just the way they entered the sewers. We looked around further but weren't able to find anything else. We headed back and brought the drunk necromancer to the authorities.

Harper spoke with his mother and came to an agreement for us to serve as security for the wedding for a total of 20 gold apiece. As most of us were planning to do it anyway we agreed. Perhaps I can use this as an opportunity to ask for information regarding the song.

Mara and Chael headed out to the Temple of Kord for reasons while I stayed back to rest. I was able to get myself clean of the sewer stink and headed to the Prismatic Eye to look to see if they had any additional stock. They did not. Shaun, the proprieter recommended I go to the Falling Star. I went to the Falling Star and spoke to the owner there. They didn't have anything that I was looking for, but I felt bad for wasting the owner's time so I did buy one healing potion. I could certainly use it afterall.

After all was said and done we returned to the Dusky Fawn and slept since the Frowning Boar was full up.

It was a long day, and I'm glad we're done in the sewers. I'm just glad I was able to get the smell out of my robes.
