Another very long day. I really hope Janie is going to be okay.
In the morning we met with Chord downstairs since he wanted for us to show him the ley line. Chord cast a spell to allow us easier entry back into the Taybot Mausoleum where we showed him the ley line as well as the upper floors with the labs. After we got back to the entrance I provided Chord the jade statue to open the gate to the ley line.
When we returned to the Heartfire Springs there were two letters waiting for us. One from the Taybots agreeing to see us, and one for Mara and Velvet for their asks in a requisition form for the Silver Moon Mallet. Mara and Velvet headed out to the Silver Moon Mallet, presumably to get Mara's sword reforged and Velvet some armor.
In the afternoon we headed to the Taybot Manor and were greeted by some guards who spoke to us and told us that we would see Lady Janie Taybot shortly. Chael and Harper corrected me when I accidentally called her "Janie". I'm still very bad at keeping track of noble formalities. Way too stuffy for my taste. When we were allowed inside we spoke with Janie, and I discussed with her everything we found. The Taybot mausoleum being desecrated, the parts removed, the suspicion on Luisa, all of it. I couldn't help but express my concerns on behalf of the party for her and the rest of the Taybots given the circumstances, and wished her well and to stay safe.
However, as we began to leave there was a loud crash from a widow above the courtyard and a man, later identified as Guy, was dropped from the widow. He picked himself and his axe up, and out from the shadows, to our collective horror, came Luisa carrying someone's heart. She summoned a large shadow creature that used some kind of magic to stun Janie and a number of the guards. I grabbed Janie and moved back to pull her away from the line of fire. Meanwhile, Chael used magic to compel Luisa to drop the heart, causing her to scream out. Once it hit the ground he ran over and let out radiant flames to ignite the heart, hurting Luisa and the shadow creature in the process. We eventually felled the shadow beast.
Harper rushed towards her and tried to call out for her to stop. As her apparent mission was a failure she went invisible and likely tried to escape. Nicodemus hopped down from the second floor with a small orb-like piece and his holy symbol. Guy threw an axe and managed to hit the invisible Luisa and pinned her to the ground, and Mara grappled her to pin her as well. Ashton joined too. Harper kept trying to reason with Luisa. Eventually they managed to subdue Luisa after pinning her.
Nicodemus then told us that she killed her father, the Lord Taybot, and that the heart she was carrying had belonged to him. When interrogated, Luisa said something about a book that had something in it that took her, and that someone Harper knew is still alive. Locked her away for 5 years. They found that book at some bazaar and tried to cast a spell which pulled Luisa into the abyss. She said that she was trapped in the abyss by someone she referred to as "he" for 5 years. That he collects souls.
Harper talks to her and says that he will find her and save her, and then sang a heartfelt song for her. Nicodemus ended up finally banishing Luisa, who disappeared in a puff of black smoke. We talked with Janie who was very shaken up. Velvet and I spoke with her about going somewhere safe, and it was agreed upon to take her to the Bowen estate. Poor Harper was completely distraught, and I don't blame him. That was near traumatic.
We then took Janie to the Bowen estate and spoke with the Bowens. Sonata and Nelfir agreed to let her stay at the Bowen estate. Janie was responsive but rather to herself, still very much in shock. Afterwards we headed back to the inn. We spoke of going to Twin River, possibly Maford. I spoke up about possibly going to Shimmerlake, as I needed to return the dwarven artifact to Eamon, which Chael seemed enthused about, but Mara did not. I wonder why.
This just got more complicated, with whatever "he" is getting "his" claws into Luisa and turning her into that... thing. I hope we're able to find a way to save her, but... if not then Harper may need to consider what may be best for Luisa's soul.
