Haunted House and a Hag Hut Oh My!

by Never Nestknitter

We set out for the Haunted House in Effeldeisen, and found the grounds to be crazy overgrown. I climbed one of the guard towers and was able to map out a path to the door. We came to a clearing and Abby pointed out some yellow stuff. Like a damned fool, Bob poked it with a stick. Turns out it's yellow mold and it released a cloud of poisonous spores into the air. Lucky for Bob, he was able to avoid getting poisoned. After that we burned away the mold.

The first room of the house was oddly cold. Unnaturally so. It's got to mean something.

We came across the kitchen, which is filthy, but strange as it may be, it smelled of a delicious meal being prepared. Do ghosts even eat? I wouldn't think so, but the scent was unmistakable. Abby was real invested in finding the source, but since we couldn't find nothin', he agreed to let it go for the time being.

Next, we found a larder that was mostly empty save for ruined stuff. We also found stairs going down, which we decided we'd go back to later.

In the Great Hall there were 20-25 lights that were floating all around. They seemed to interact with each other, but not with us.

In the dining room, we found a bottle of cider, which we decided to keep.

In what looked to be the study, we found a large desk and bookselves. Everything had water damage. Good ol' Rankle was able to find a journal though. The journal mentioned lycanthropy. In particular someone named Stassi, who apparently suffered from the condition. Unsettlin'.

In one of the bedrooms we found a desk containing a ledger for a well run manor. According to the ledger, they gave geneous payments to special fostering services for Stassi.

We came across another bedroom, but unlike the rest of the house, this room was pristine. It even had a wash basin full of fresh water. That fer sure was a big clue about somthin'.

Eventually we made our way to the basement. There were three swarms of rats. Rankle, Bob, and Arc's little buddy each got the killing blow on a swarm each. When we inspected the room, we saw it was the wine cellar and most everything was in good repair. We helped ourselves to six bottles.

After that we went to the second floor, which was just one huge library.

The third floor had a W.C. and guest quarters with a four post bed. Fancy as all get out.

Then we happened upon the main bedroom. This is where stuff got spooky. Inside there was an ethereal gnome lady. Rankle tried to talk to her which was apparently a bad idea cuz she flew right into him and took control of his body and started to fly away. Luckily Abby acted quick and protected Rankle with some sort of spell. Rankle got free unharmed. She was less angry after that so we had a conversation with her. She told us she needed to free Stassi from the curse and then she'd be able to move on from this world. Turns out Stassi was cursed by a night hag named Twissa who had taken a vile of her blood. To break the curse we needed to either kill Twissa or recover the vile of blood. The gnome told us to talk to Stassi and where we could find her. She said to bring her proof that we had taken care of the situation, and she'd move on.

Just to be safe, we checked out the fourth floor too, but didn't find much 'cept for another ice cold room.

We found Stassi an she told us where to find Twissa's hut. When we got there there were some creatures we had to fight. Twissa was there too of course so we were fighting a buncha stuff that woulda been easy, cept for we were all kinda divided. For some reason during the combat Bob acted to fool again and tried to mess with a chest. Wouldn't ya know it turned out to be a mimic so we had one more thing to contend with. Twissa kept vanishing and reappearing, and sometimes was ethereal so we could hardly get her. Unfortunately, she got away. Well once everything that remained was taken care of, we found that vile of blood. It was a crazy coupla days for sure!
