Thank you CraniumBeaver for your suggestion, and all of you for your contributions, thoughts and voting. I am attaching below my thoughts. This suggestion is wholeheartedly accepted.
Maybe it would already be enough if we had the option to not link an article and just place a name and/or image with the option to add character articles etc. later if one feels like it but not as a requirement.
I'd enjoy a family tree where the only the focus character have a photo...and it's not possbible to click on characters whose articles are private. Or just a simple family tree with name and dob.
I think this could be simply fixed by just adding an option for a simple family tree which just goes by names and does not allow pictures at all, to clean this up a bit.
I'm in the same boat with the family tree and dummy character articles. Love this idea and would utilize the heck out of it if it was available. Really like the character specific options you listed out as some of my characters have pictures and others don't.
All of the above sounds compelling and interesting! The thing I most identify with is the desire to split characters up into those that play a major role, minor role, or are nothing more than perhaps a name, DOB, etc.
Yes please give us an option to toggle certain portraits to not display
Disabling links for private and/or draft articles would be great. And an option to mark a character as major, minor or "filler" would be even better. I'd love to highlight those who are most relevant to my world, e.g. a king who shaped history significantly, or a point-of-view character as opposed to their family background.
Good idea, no images is better than placeholder images for a finished tree.
This sounds amazing. Visual indicator of 'major characters' with sheets or 'minor characters' without additional sheet/information would be great, too.
Love the suggestions for disabling portraits and article links, I would hope that fulfils the system requirements for still having an article attached. An example that comes to mind is when Wikipedia displays dead links in red.
I think you have done a fab good describing what can be done and how to do it. I love the Family Tree, and my whole world is built around how everyone is connected, which is alot and can be kinda crazy when you need articles for those people. I know that they family tree is complicated system and we can't get rid of needing to make those articles but I thing a visual clue that helps people know what is a full article and what is just a sentence or two is a great idea!
I would love to have an on/off toggle for character portraits in the tree. It would be great for making more visually condensed trees.
I also believe that we should be able to mark the article in some way as a minor (totally insignificant and just there to be a person in the tree) and a major (a character that has importance and a sheet).
