What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

We can now use BBCode to display map pins in articles, but it would be great if we could also use them as the icons for our articles and categories so that they display in the Table of Contents!   I have previously tried to use CSS to manually put country flags and guild icons on specific articles and category icons but it's very complex to do and requires a new line of CSS per article or category (as you have to declare exactly which one you want it on).   This takes away valuable worldbuilding time and could be much easier and cleaner to do for users of all abilities :)

How does this feature request address the current situation?

The ability to use the existing map pins on World Anvil as ToC icons would allow for greater customization of worlds :D   This would create amazing visual consistency throughout our content and furthermore, some icons just can't be found on FontAwesome or RPGAwesome.   I would love to be able to use the custom map pins I've added to my Creative Studio and get the most use out of them all over my world.

What are other uses for this feature request?

I would use this feature for the following quality of life upgrades:
  • Country flags on category icons
  • Guild icons on certain articles
  • Custom icons on major categories that match the ones I use on my map
  • Mark my settlement articles with the same map markers I use

The Team's Response

Hello beans!   This request did not get enough support from the community in order to be considered at this point.   But I wanted to actually have a discussion for this regardless. The icons for maps are PNG files which are quite big in order to be used as tiny icons in front of a category on a ToC or most other interface. They are also coloured on a specific way which makes them quite inflexible in terms of theming.   Due to those two reasons I find it difficult to understand how this would be a good implementation - I will be more than happy to discuss it with the OP on the #development-discussion channel since they are the creator and aware that these icons where never created by them as SVGs which would make them eligible for this. Come by to have a chat :)
