Public Agenda
The Kingdom of Balad, under the rule of King Alaric IV Edmore seeks peace and stability above all else. Though young, Alaric is a wise and just ruler who desires the best for his people, especially the common folk who form the backbone of the kingdom. He envisions a future where Balad prospers through diplomacy, trade, and internal unity rather than war and conquest. However, his ideals are not shared by all. Many of the kingdom’s barons, valuing their own power and wealth above the greater good, see his rule as a threat to their influence. Unwilling to yield to a king who seeks to limit their authority, they conspire against him, stirring unrest within the realm. As tensions rise, the stability of Balad hangs in the balance, forcing Alaric to navigate treacherous political waters while staying true to his vision of a peaceful and prosperous kingdom.
Laws
Law System The Syndar Codex of Laws
The Kingdom of Balad, like all the kingdoms of Syndar, is bound by the Codex of Syndar, a sacred and binding document signed by all seven kings of the realm. This codex represents a collective agreement between the kingdoms, outlining shared principles, laws, and guidelines for the governance and relations between the realms. The Codex of Syndar serves as the foundational legal and moral framework for the kingdoms, promoting unity and cooperation while respecting the sovereignty of each individual realm. Though the kingdoms retain their own distinct laws and customs, they are all required to adhere to the core tenets of the codex. This agreement ensures a certain level of consistency in governance, diplomacy, and conflict resolution, creating a semblance of order and mutual respect across Syndar.
For the Kingdom of Balad, the Codex of Syndar holds special importance. While its own internal laws—such as those governing the nobility, commerce, and slavery—are unique to the kingdom, Balad has committed to upholding the shared values outlined in the Codex. This includes the protection of peace between the kingdoms, the sanctity of royal sovereignty, and the rights of kingdoms to self-govern, while also respecting the broader community of Syndar.
In this way, the Codex of Syndar serves as both a reminder of unity and a safeguard against the dangers of isolation or conflict between the kingdoms. The agreement, signed by the seven kings, remains a symbol of the interconnectedness of the realms, ensuring that while each kingdom stands strong in its individuality, they all work together to maintain peace and stability across the entire continent.
