Thalarians (humans)

The Thalarians are a human race that thrives on the vast and untamed lands of Thalas. They are defined by their indomitable will to survive in a world of merciless nature. Renowned for their adaptability, they flourish in an environment where survival depends on quick thinking, resilience, and ingenuity. Masters of the art of change, they have evolved a culture and way of life that mirrors they adaptibility.
On Thalas there are many different people who we could consider a different species, for example because of the way of life, skin color, diametrically different customs, but even if people differ in many ways, sometimes beyond recognition, they still belong to the common Thallarian race.

In general we recognize these few different Thalarians:

Basic Information

Anatomy

Thalarians exhibit a broad range of physical traits, reflecting the diversity of their environments. Skin tones range from pale in the north to deep bronze and dark in the sun-drenched south. Hair colors include earthy browns, golden blonds, and fiery reds, with eyes in shades of green, hazel, and brown that mirror the landscapes they inhabit.
They are robust and strong, their bodies shaped by a life of labor and necessity. Farmers and woodsmen are broad-shouldered and muscular, while hunters and scouts are lean and agile. This can be applied for all different types based on their environment and work.

Strengths and Skills
Versatility: Whether taming wildlands, building roads, cities, or defending their homes, Thalarians are quick to adapt to new challenges. They are equally comfortable in the heart of the forest or atop a windswept plateau, or a city.
Engineering Prowess: Thalarian engineers are celebrated for their innovations, from irrigation systems that turn deserts into farmland to mighty stone bridges and fortified castles.
Resilience: A life close to the land has made the Thalarians tough and enduring. They can withstand harsh winters, recover quickly from setbacks, and rally to defend their communities when threatened.

Ecology and Habitats

The Thalarian’s ecology and habitat are as diverse as the landscapes they inhabit. Their adaptability allows them to thrive across a wide range of environments, from lush forests and fertile plains to harsh mountains and arid deserts. Their interaction with the land is marked by a sustainable balance, as they strive to live in harmony with their surroundings while reaping its resources for survival and prosperity.
Eastern Thalarians
The most culturally based Thalarians. Ancestors and spirits of the world play a huge role in their culture. They are deeply religious and most closed to the surrounding world and other species.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Thalarian’s ability to thrive in diverse environments makes them the backbone of any kingdom. They are the farmers who feed armies, the builders who raise cities, and the warriors who defend the frontiers. Wherever they go, they leave behind a legacy of determination and ingenuity, proving time and again that no land is too harsh for them to call home.

Behaviour

Fragmented Kingdoms: The Thalarian’s diversity often leads to divided loyalties. Rivalries between regions or clans can result in internal conflicts, weakening their unity.
Cautious Nature: While their adaptability is a strength, Thalarians are often slow to adopt foreign ideas, preferring to rely on proven traditions. This can make them resistant to change or innovation from outside their culture.   Relations with Other Races
Elves: Thalarians respect elves for their knowledge of nature but find their aloofness frustrating. Still, alliances are common, particularly in shared forested regions.
Dwarves: They maintain strong trade ties with dwarves, exchanging food and wood for metalwork and stone. Their pragmatic outlooks often lead to mutual respect.
Nomadic Races: While they value stability, Terranfolk admire the adaptability of nomadic races and sometimes trade with them, though cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings.

In general it is true that Thalarians made the most conflicts between the races of Thalas du to their greed and seeknes of power.
Yortunians
Also called barbarians or savages. In general, they are the most temperamental among the Thalarians. Their lifestyle is adapted to northern conditions, and in their culture courage, perseverance and individual strength play an important role. Respect and honor are also very important. Yortunians are very proud and do not allow anyone to influence their lives. They are often the first to start a conflict.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Elders and Council of Wisdom
Elders hold a significant place in Thalarian society as custodians of knowledge, history, and tradition. Their wisdom is sought after in times of both peace and conflict.
Council of Wisdom: Most Thalarians communities have a council composed of the oldest and most respected members. This council advises the leader of the community, ensuring decisions align with the values of the people and the balance of nature.
Elders lead ceremonial rites, teach younger generations, and ensure that the community stays grounded in its core values, even as it evolves. They also mediate disputes and offer solutions in times of crisis.

Leaders
Leadership among the Thalarians is earned but also inherited, and the title of chief or leader is granted based on the individual's contributions to the community’s survival and success. These leaders are often elected or selected by the council or the people.
Terranfolk leaders, or chieftains, are primarily tasked with ensuring the security and prosperity of their people. Their leadership is pragmatic, and they are expected to make decisions that protect the community’s resources, guide it through times of change, and ensure its long-term sustainability. A leader must earn respect through action and wisdom but sometimes they do it through birthright or wealth. Their role is often more about guiding the people through example. Dictatorial control is often seen in les evoved societies. Charisma, intelligence, and compassion are highly valued in a leader.

Warriors and Protectors
The warriors and protectors form the backbone of the Thalarian’s defense system. Their role extends beyond combat to include safeguarding the community from external threats, both natural and human.
Thalarians are a war-driven society, they recognize the importance of defense and respect their warriors for their courage and ability to protect the land and people. Warriors undergo rigorous training, learning both physical combat and strategies to defend their communities.
They are bound by a deep sense of honor and duty, knowing that the security of the group is paramount. In many regions, warriors are seen as protectors of sacred lands, defending them not only from invaders but also from over-exploitation of the natural world.

Craftsmen, Farmers, and Laborers
Craftsmen and farmers make up the core of the workforce. They are highly respected for their contributions to the community’s survival, producing food, tools, weapons, and art.
The Thalarians are skilled artisans, known for their metalwork, woodwork, pottery, and other crafts that serve both practical and aesthetic purposes. The craftsmen, like blacksmiths and carpenters, are seen as vital to both the community’s infrastructure and culture.
Farmers and Herders - Are primarily agrarian, with farming being a central part of their way of life. Farmers work the land, cultivating crops such as grains, fruits, and vegetables. Herders tend livestock like cattle, sheep, and goats, ensuring the community has a steady supply of food and materials.
Both craftsmen and farmers have roles in decision-making, especially regarding land use, resource distribution, and the sustainable practices that ensure future generations can thrive.

Priests and Shamans
Spiritual leaders among them, including priests and shamans, play a significant role in maintaining the spiritual health of the community. They perform rituals, offer guidance in times of hardship, and ensure that the community maintains its connection to the spirits of the land. In many Thalarian cultures, these spiritual leaders are seen as the mediators between the physical world and the natural spirits, deities, or ancestors. They believe deeply in the spirits of the land and the ancestors, and their religious leaders are responsible for preserving these traditions. Shamans are often able to call upon natural magic to aid the people, such as influencing the weather, healing the sick, or communing with the spirits.

Class and Social Mobility
One of the hallmarks of their society is social mobility. While certain roles, such as elders and spiritual leaders, are based on wisdom or spiritual calling, the majority of Terranfolk can rise or fall based on their contributions to the community. Merit-Based Status: Unlike rigid caste systems, status in Terranfolk society is based on merit, contribution, and actions. A skilled craftsman, an innovative farmer, or a brilliant strategist may rise to leadership positions based on their proven ability to serve the community. Egalitarianism: While some divisions based on gender or family lineage exist, the Terranfolk do not rigidly enforce class distinctions. Most individuals are respected based on their actions rather than birth or wealth.

Role of Women
Women in Terranfolk society hold important and respected roles, from leadership to craftsmanship to spiritual guidance. In many cultures, women are seen as vital to maintaining the balance of the community, and many rise to positions of power, particularly in matters of land stewardship, agriculture, or healing. Female warriors, healers, and artisans are just as respected as their male counterparts but they have to earn it hardly than males. The societal expectation is that both men and women contribute to the community in ways that match their skills and abilities, not their gender.

Leadership Councils and Governance
In larger communities, especially those situated near trade routes or in dense populations, governance is often handled by regional councils made up of elected representatives from various sectors of society—farmers, warriors, spiritual leaders, and artisans. Thalarians value consensus and negotiation. While disputes may arise, the focus is on mediation and finding peaceful resolutions, guided by the wisdom of the elders or the council. Physical confrontations are rare, as the focus is on long-term cooperation and stability.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Many Talarians are captured and serve as slaves. It is a common phenomenon that the Thalarians themselves are of interest to others. Influence and power is a big role in their social structure, and therefore they are often the weakest and least influential enslaved.
Akirians
Akirians are divided into two groups. Those who adapted to the new, more technological world and those who remained with old habits and cultural customs. The indigenous Akirians prefer a nomadic way of life. They inhabit the Desert of Akira and often travel hundreds of kilometers for food.
They are technologically undeveloped, but their mental and cultural wealth is indescribable. On the other hand, there are akirkans who have adapted to the new world. They began to build cities and inhabit the seaside parts of Akira. They began to chase wealth, gold and technology, and cultural heritage was pushed to the sidelines. There is great hatred between these two nations. Indigenous Akirkans often fall into captivity and slavery.
