King / Queen

The King or Queen holds supreme power over the entire kingdom. They govern all lands within the kingdom's borders and are responsible for the overall prosperity, security, and diplomacy of the realm. Their authority is absolute, and they make decisions regarding war, peace, and alliances. They may grant titles and lands to nobles in exchange for service.

This title is a hereditary rank passed down through generations, typically reserved for the direct descendants of a royal or noble family. The holder of the title is recognized as the legitimate ruler or leader within the family or realm, often acquiring the position by right of blood, with succession determined by the first male heir or a specified line of inheritance. The title carries with it not just the authority to rule, but also a deep connection to tradition, as it is tied to the history and legacy of the family or monarchy. The titleholder’s role is often ceremonial at times, but it comes with the responsibility of overseeing governance, ensuring the welfare of the land, and upholding the family’s honor and legacy.

Qualifications

Primary qualification is lineage, with the individual needing to be a direct descendant of the royal family, often the first male heir. Additional requirements are reaching a specific age of maturity - 10 years, to ensure they are capable of assuming the responsibilities of leadership. If an heir is confirmed to the succession before the age of 10, their mother acts as regent, ruling in their name until they reach the age of 10 and are deemed capable of assuming the responsibilities of the title themselves.
Heirs also undergo formal education or training in governance, military strategy, or diplomacy to prepare them for their role. Occasionally, physical or mental fitness may be evaluated, akin to a medical examination, to ensure they are capable of fulfilling the duties expected of the position. These qualifications are often steeped in tradition, ensuring continuity and stability in the line of succession.

Appointment

A person is typically raised to this rank through a formal ceremony or ritual, which serves to publicly acknowledge their new position and solidify their authority. This event is often conducted in a grand setting, such as the primary cathedral of the kingdom's religion, and is presided over by the highest-ranking bishops or religious figures in the realm. The bishops' involvement is crucial, as their blessing or formal acknowledgment adds a spiritual or divine aspect to the elevation. The ceremony may include anointing with sacred oils, the reading of sacred oaths, and the presentation of royal symbols, such as a crown or scepter. This differs in every kingdom. This ritual not only marks the heir's assumption of the title but also affirms their legitimacy and divine favor in the eyes of the people and the clergy.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Someone can be dismissed from this title if they are deemed unfit to rule due to incompetence, betrayal, or actions that undermine the stability of the realm, such as corruption or gross misconduct. The procedure typically involves a formal investigation, possibly initiated by a council or religious body, followed by a tribunal or hearing to determine guilt. If found unworthy, the title may be revoked, and the heir or successor named. In some cases, the dismissal could also be endorsed by a religious or governing figure, such as a high bishop or council leader, to ensure legitimacy.
