Hillsboro

Hillsboro is a quiet community located near the center of the Korlon Hills. A collection of homes and businesses that sprung up around the local mining trade, Hillsboro has become the first community to be visited by the local farmers, trappers and miners. The long trip around the Korlon Hills through Marston convinces more than a few merchants to travel through the hills and through Hillsboro. While shorter, the trip is more difficult, and Brannagan's Ferry can't accommodate large caravans. Though Hillsboro has recently seen a lot of growth, for most of its existence it's been a sleepy, back-water community and that fits many of its residents just fine.

The gnomes have created an enclave of their own, which the local refer to as Gnome Hill on the northeastern edge of the village. Most of the Hin live on small farmsteads outside of the village proper.

Former adventuring companions, Maleon and Reynulf cleared out multiple nests of bandits in the region before Maleaon was awarded the position of Mayor and Reynulf Sherriff. The two are a couple, which doesn't sit well with some of the older and more conservative villagers, including the former village elder Culwich Alston and the village wizard Ranessin, who also objects to Maleon's membership in the Prismatic Order ("It's not a true wizard's school")

History

Hillsboro started out as a place where local hill folk, miners and trappers alike would come to seek advice from the local druids. The druid grove currently tended by Garym predates the village. The Carrick family noted the potential and gained permission from the druids to build a small inn near their grove. Soon a trading post and houses began sprouting up.
That was the way Hillsboro stayed until about 50 years ago, when the Temple of Chaos began attacking and raiding miners and farmers alike. The village elders sent out criers seeking sell-swords to combat the growing problems. Once the extent of the temple, and the summoning of demons, was discovered the Queen of Brineven sent her armies to crush the temple, and they based themselves in the tiny hamlet of Hillsboro. Though unable to destroy the temple or defeat the demon lord, they crushed the human and humanoid followers and sealed the demon lord away.
About ten years ago, a band of local youth, led by a wizard from Brineven City named Maleon made quite a name for themselves clearing the local area of brigands and monsters. The group consisted on the wizard Maleon Valbard, the warrior Reynulf Ithobar, a young priestess of the Sun Fane named Varona, the fighter Odvar and an elven rogue named Mederei. Reynulf, Varona and Odvar were actually from Hillsboro. Maleon's Misfits became the talk of Hillsboro, and soon Maleon was granted the Title Mayor of Hillsboro for his leadership in clearing the land. Coming to an understanding with the local druid Garym, Maleon began developing the resources of the hamlet. Varona began constructing a church of the Sun Fane which she named Clovinar Abbey after a famed hero Clovis Bararosa who fell in the battle with the Temple of Chaos. Reynulf was appointed Sheriff of the Kron Hills.
A few years ago, bandit activity began to increase and humanoid raids were on the rise. At first Maleon's Misfits thought they could handle the unrest themselves. Varona, Odver and Mederei left Hillsboro to investigate the growing threats, while Maleon and Reynulf considered their next moves.
