Galadnock mac-Kenzie

The Ungovernable, Shield-Anvil of Rochbilidin, Flamespeaker of Tong Deum, Whose Shouts Part Phalanxes

"The unquenchable fire of mac-Kenzie's confidence, his adamantine bravery, his faith in the ultimate goodness of fate: these were the flames that warmed the Insurgent Heroes in their coldest nights and lit the way on their darkest paths."
— The Inula'an Dialogues

Galadnock mac-Kenzie is the dwarven Insurgent and later Material demigod of travel, stories, music, fire and surfacers on the plane of Waking Materia.

Prior to godhood, mac-Kenzie was a warrior-skald born on the plane of Pitravat. He would become a high-ranking member of the Flamespeakers of Tong Deum, a hero in the Wars of Rochbilidin and the penultimate leader of a group of multiplanar guides, mercenaries and eco-warriors known as the Sagasingers. He was one of the four Insurgent Heroes—eventually Insurgent Gods—to track the great Lichlord Inum'indiron'aravaut to Materia to counter the warlord's interplanar hegemony.

His full title is Galadnock mac-Kenzie "The Ungovernable, Shield-Anvil of Rochbilidin, Flamespeaker of Tong Deum, Whose Shouts Part Phalanxes".

His alignment is Lawful Good.

Portrayals of mac-Kenzie are generally of a well-built dwarf with wild, firey red hair and beard, often in monks' garb. He may be in a stance of Tong Deum, breathing fire, or wielding his trusty waraxes, Swift Eila & Strong Edytha.

Worship

Galadnock mac-Kenzie is primarily worshipped by dwarven surfacers, adventurers, diplomats, skalds and practitioners of Tong Deum. He is the most well-known dwarven god amongst surface races and is sometimes even worshipped by non-dwarves as an exemplar of skaldry and inter-species diplomacy.

There is a small remaining sect of the Flamespeakers on Materia, originally passed down from Galadnock mac-Kenzie himself. They are mostly dwarven but welcome members of all races. One aspect of the teachings of Tong Deum is greater tolerance not just of fire but of light, making it a useful art for dwarves, drow, wayangs and other subterranean or dark-aspected species that are naturally light-intolerant. Though not considered true practicioners by the Flamespeakers, some groups teach these light toleration techniques independent of the wider martial arts and philosophies of Tong Deum.

The Ascendant God-Heroes who Opposed the Colonial Lichlords

There are innumerable stories tied to Galadnock mac-Kenzie's name.

Antiquity

The Ungovernable was born on the cold and distant plane of Pitravat. He showed a talent for skaldery from a young age and, combining his arts with the ancient flamespeaking techniques of Tong Deum, would grow to push the limits of what that term meant as he ascended to demigodhood. Even Voidspace isn't enough to contain the wanderings of a skald as bold as mac-Kenzie, who would plane-hop to Lochros, Eridún and beyond, eventually gathering a considerble band of explorers and information dealers under him. They would forge an alliance with V'Shaat al-Avra and her own band of mercenaries, and the united group would become known as the Sagasingers.

Students

mac-Kenzie would continue to pass on the teachings of the Flamespeakers of Tong Deum as he traveled, and even as he warred against the Colonial Gods. Some famous students of his include

The Battle of Silent Sound

One of the mac-Kenzie's most storied battles was outside the Kettite town of Silent Sound, where he, Laila By-the-Sea, Valaan Blackblade and a few suviving soldiers held off an attack by Lichlord Chelicerax's scorpionine armies for a gruelling eight hours, long enough for Vierix Clymenikari and the Hecath Queen Raggedy Azra to summon the help of her Sisters, thus turning the tide of the battle and defeating the chelicerans.

The "mac-Kenzie piece" of a traditional, Late First Age board game known as Tumba'ad. Similar to the Earth game Go, the pieces are mostly generic infantry used to surround and capture your opponent's pieces, however there are also "commander" pieces one may choose, secretly, at the beginning of the game and employ as a trump card in certain situations. The Insurgent Gods, like mac-Kenzie, were among the commander pieces, as well as certin Colonial Gods and other famed commanders.
