Insurgent God

The Ascendant God-Heroes who Opposed the Colonial Lichlords

"Arriving on a fresh, unsuspecting plane, the main tool the Kelpeater Dominion had at their disposal was surprise. No one, save for the empire's past enemies, had any idea of the extent of their ambition. Luckily for Waking Materia, these noble enemies had no intention of letting the Dominion repeat the same atrocities, no matter the distance from home..."

The Insurgent Gods are the four extraplanar heroes, eventually ascendant gods, who arrived on Waking Materia from other planes to counter the destructive hegemony of the Lorganite Lichlord Inum'indiron'aravaut, and eventually the other Colonial Gods.

The two initial heroes were the Lorganites Emeliat Reis and Merlinkainen, who would eventually be joined by the Sagasingers V'Shaat al-Avra and Galadnock mac-Kenzie. This divine quartet forms the core of the pantheon. The Insurgent Heroes became so popular by the Middle First Age that their followings spanned much of Materia, even forming small branches on other planes of the Sulatian Eighth during the height of the Dye Wars and the First Dragon Wars. Their following even included heroes who would themselves ascend, creating a new generation of native-born demigods.

Later Members

Other members of the insurgent armies would ascend to godhood as well, though their inclusion in the Insurgent Pantheon varies between theological schools. Some "secondary" insurgent gods nonetheless include:

  • Solonn was perhaps the earliest to fight in battles or campaigns alongside the Insurgents, though he was too much of a free spirit to dedicate himself solely to the cause;
  • The Field Marshal, who in those days was an old monk and occasional disciple of Emeliat Reis, known as Hanaviri-no-Kishiki ("The Knight of Petals") ;
  • The Three Magi, most powerful of Merlinkainen's dozen-or-so First Age pupils: Archabjurer Tekchinyulot Ch'tosé, Archevoker Inunvieli Koyaté and Archillusionist Mael Morha. (Morha would later break away from the insurgency, eventually becoming the goddess of the dark magicks, Morrigan) ;
  • The Stormlords Ronom and Ranarim, who would eventually become the Material Gods of storms and nautical travel, started as expert kaiju hunters, but eventually began putting their skill at killing larger targets to good use: challenging and beating the enormous warbodies of the Colonial Lichlords;
  • The Bard-God Laila By-the-Sea, who was a frequent ally of Ronom & Ranarim, and also inspired many heroics against the world's tyrants;
  • Some list Kaleva as an Insurgent, though this is debated: while she would clash with the Lichlords if they caught her temper, there is little record of her having explicit sympathies to the cause.
