Republic of Holandia

The Republic of Holandia is a large younger nation in which has the unique selling point of obtaining a form of a true democracy using a specially designed spell for the citizens to vote. The nation is run by a central parliament, headed by the Prime Minister. The culture of the large republic varries wildly, and thus cultural conflicts are common.

The Holandian Cantrip

Every legal citizen of the Republic is taught a simple spell in order to participate in the democracy and to act as a central ID system. Within the cities, the spell is taught to students during their education. Every smaller village also has the capacity to teach it to people and immigrants. The spell allows for the person the spell is cast on to learn some details about the owner. These details are the name, race, age, date of birth, place of origin, and place of residence. The Spell also allows for one to receive messages from the Holandian Government and to cast votes on various actions taken. For Example, the citizens of a city can receive information on a potential crime committed, and vote on the punishment they feel is fit.

Demographics

Humans

While humans themselves hailed from the Continent of Espia, by the time of the Fracture, they called the central region their home. This led to Human villages starting the Holandian Expansion and having a lot of headroom within the government. Many human groups also make up the Western Holandian Natives (Detailed later).

Dwarves

The Dwarves call the central mountain range home. While technically part of the Holandian Territory, many of the small Dwarven fortresses do not claim allegiance to Holandia and govern themselves. This had led to a small rift forming, with many Dwarves feeling that they are not represented within the mostly Human parliament. The Mountains that they call home holds many vaults and old ruins that hold treasures, which the Holandian Government finds useful. Namely, the Cavehelm Gem is found there.

Halflings

The Halflings originally resided on the south coast, and thus call parts of Holandia their home. They are fairly unrepresented within the Holandian Government, however, there is much less discourse due to their geographic location.

Gnomes

The Gnomes lay claim to the Southern Jungle and the towns and cities within the jungle. Much like the Dwarves, the civilizations are fairly remote and removed from the larger Holandian Ethos.

Structure

The State is headed by two government departments, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of Parliament.

Office of the Prime Minister

The Prime Minister is the head of state, who is elected by the people in a direct election system. Under the Prime Minister, Governmental Workers are appointed by the PM's office. This office manages the enforcement of laws, Foreign Diplomatic relations, and acts as a check for all laws and regulations passed by Parliament.

Office of Parliament

The Holandian Parliament is made up of Twenty Five representatives, Five of which are representatives that give voice to Cultural groups rather than populations. The Other twenty hail from each of the Regions within Holandia. Within each region, Parliament is also set up that manage their districts. The Federal Parliament manages each of these regions, and manages the budget and creates laws. Most members of Parliament ask their voters on what should they vote for each decision they take.

History

In the year 921 PTF, the heads of three smaller towns North East of the Holandian Mountain ranges came together to form the precursor state to what now is the Holandian Government. These three people are now known as the Forefathers. The old government used an electoral system, in which one person from each village was sent to a small election held once a decade. The winner of this Election would be the organization's leader until the next election. While the group grew, other towns decided to join, and eventually, the group made a conscious effort to expand. This effort started in 945 PTF, with nearly all of the land east of the Holandian mountain range joining the group by 985 PTF.

Holandian Expansion (945 - 985 PTF)

The First Kadian War (956 - 959 PTF)

In the year 956, during the height of the Holandian Expansion, the colonialist expedition party sent found themselves bordered by a previously unknown nation, now known as the Monarchy of Kadenhall . As an act of good faith, the group moved more West, until they found a location that the Kingdom did not lay claim to, and founded the Settlement of Sinas . However, little did the group know, at the same time of this event, the king of the Monarchy of Kadenhall wanted to expand his claim into the Holandian Mountain range. This sparked the First Kadian war, starting with a large raid on Sinas, and lasting three years, ending with a peace treaty with Sinas being marked as the border between the two nations.

The Western Unification Movement (1085 - 1100 PTF)

The Western Unification Movement was a series of policies enacted by the Holandian Government revolving around the place, sovereignty, and freedoms of the various native groups that called Western Holandia home. This movement is commonly agreed upon to have started when a bill was passed that considered all people that called the areas West of Sinas home to be official citizens of Holandia. This led to much outcry from smaller towns within this region, which many wished to remain sovereign. This was compounded by the introduction of the Holandian Cantrip, which many smaller native groups outright refused to use/accept. This movement was finalized by when the core center of Alakadi culture, the city of Tamment was deemed the new capital of Holandia.
