"In the Year 1187 PTF, the small mining company Ihar Breakers was doing a routine job in a small section west of the city. A few weeks after the assignment, they struck a rock so hard that one hit was enough to shatter their pickaxes. After consulting with the town's Mage, they found it to be the rock of a Dwarvish origin, dating to the time of the Fracture. After many weeks of political deliberation, the city decided to open the vault, and they found a cache of strange gems. After experimentation, they found that these gems possessed properties that allowed for the city to develop new technolgies. Ideas from floating carriages to even weapons were tested and implemented."

Utility

The Cavehelm gem has many uses, many of which are still being discovered. The cavehelm gem is currently in use by many industries. 

Transportation

The Famous Holandian Rail System uses Cavehelm gems as the source of its power. The system works by a long line of gems placed on the underside of the train car, and magical energy can be placed into the gems to create a force that can propel the cart in a given direction. Care must be made that these gems do not get too much power, as the force they can generate can propel the cart to unsafe speeds, and can lead to the cart breaking the rail, and flying off the tracks. Namely, in 1239, an untrained opperator caused a trail to break off on a trek to Chesa, and caused 20 deaths and the destruction of a small portion of track.

Social Impact

While the more industrious sectors of Chesa are flourishing with the new discovery, those with a passion for the preservation of Dwarvish culture are hard-pressed to support the change. The mining operation causes alot of the Vemduhr ruins to be destroyed.

Access & Availability

Access to the rock is highly restricted, in order to keep the small amount that is owned from going away.

Discovery

Discovered in previously unnamed Dwarven Ruin, now known to be called Vemduhr. During a small excavation of the site, a hidden room was found full of these bright gems. After testing their properties, more rooms were found, and are still being found.
