Adelpha Karas
She-Knight Adelpha Karas
The She-Knight of Blackfield
Adelpha Karas was born the only child of Appius Karas, the Lord of Pendragon Citadel. Appius was a well-respected Noble, and he desperately wanted a son to inherit his legacy and lead House Karas. Instead, his wife repeatedly had problems with childbirth, until she eventually died giving birth to Adelpha. Adelpha was not seen as a disappointment by her father however, who decided to accept her and raise her as the heir. She was treated like a future Lady, and was trained in things typical of Noble Ladies, such as diplomacy and house management, but she was also trained in things typical of Noble boys, such as combat and military strategy. She even participated in multiple jousting tournaments at a young age. Her father would jokingly call her a "She-Knight" Due to her success in these tournaments. During one of these tournaments when she was celebrating her nineteenth birthday in 1268, she managed to beat Aurelius Caedus in a friendly jousting competition, and he was said to be enamored with her after this event. Aurelius respected her for not only deciding to learn how to joust, but for ending a long winning streak in jousting competitions. He began to visit Adelpha often, and they quickly fell in love. When her father died in 1269, Adelpha had a sudden dilemma. Her father had never had any other children, and had declared her as the heir, but women were generally not accepted as rulers at that time in history. In order to support her claim and elevate her people, she decided to finally marry Aurelius Caedus, who had asked her almost as soon as her father died. She also decided to merge her House with House Caedus, and her land and troops were given directly to her husband. Her home and birthplace of Pendragon Citadel was given to Percival Gideon, Aurelius's second in command, and he formed House Gideon, a loyal vassal of House Caedus. Adelpha encouraged the merging of Houses by taking her Husbands last name despite being the last Karas, and thus House Karas was fully dissolved into House Caedus. Though the name Karas no longer holds any weight, one of her House's most unique features endures today, her family's iconic black hair and blue eyes are still visible in her descendants, to the extent that many associate black hair and blue eyes with royalty.Family Tree
